England fast bowler Brydon Carse\u2019s nightclub controversy has taken another turn, with Derbyshire Police now investigating \u201callegations of assault\u201d following the incident that saw him handcuffed outside a Derby venue.<\/p>\n

Carse was dropped from England\u2019s squad for the second Test against Pakistan, beginning at Lord\u2019s on Thursday, after the Cricket Regulator launched an investigation into the weekend incident.<\/p>\n

The Durham paceman was initially arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly before being de-arrested after agreeing to leave the area.<\/p>\n

But Derbyshire Police provided a significant update late Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are investigating allegations of assault in Derby city centre,\u201d police said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo arrests have yet been made and the investigation is ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n

There is currently no clarity over what role, if any, Carse had in the alleged assault, while the England and Wales Cricket Board is yet to publicly comment on the latest development.<\/p>\n

Police had initially confirmed Carse\u2019s detention after footage emerged appearing to show the England quick handcuffed in the street.<\/p>\n

\u201cA man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in Derby city centre on Saturday night,\u201d the initial statement read.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever the man was de-arrested shortly afterwards having agreed to leave the area.\u201d<\/p>\n

Former England captain Ben Stokes and centrally contracted seamer Matthew Potts also appeared in footage captured following Durham\u2019s County Championship victory over Derbyshire, although there is no suggestion either was involved in any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n

The incident has added to concerns surrounding England\u2019s off-field behaviour, with Test captain Joe Root making his frustration clear earlier this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I\u2019m being brutally honest I\u2019m really hacked off,\u201d Root said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve spoken to Brydon and when I first found out my first concern was him as a person.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019m speaking out of turn in saying he\u2019s very upset, very apologetic and understands his actions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Root stressed his frustration extended beyond the latest incident, pointing towards a series of off-field controversies involving the England set-up.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s not the isolated incident itself, it\u2019s the fact we continuously keep making stupid mistakes away from the game and it\u2019s detracting from what we are doing on the field.\u201d<\/p>\n
