The 28-year-old was found unresponsive with critical injuries at home on Taree Street in St James at about 8.30pm on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
She was taken to Royal Perth Hospital, where she was declared dead.<\/p>\n
The man assisting police with enquiries is a 38-year-old who knew the woman.<\/p>\n
A nearby St James resident said criminal activity including break ins were common in the area.<\/p>\n
Hassan Mahmoud was leaving for night shift work as a nurse when he noticed emergency vehicles on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought maybe like it\u2019s the usual stuff because in this area like I have seen many suspicious people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s always something going on, so even in our house we had like six break-ins.\u201d<\/p>\n
He told The West Australian that it was unsettling to learn someone had died at the home.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s shocking because I know that this area is not safe,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter this incident, we have to think about moving somewhere because it\u2019s actually not safe here.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter that news, it\u2019s shocking.\u201d<\/p>\n
Housemates residing in a home a few doors away from the crime scene said they didn\u2019t hear anything, and had only saw police cars when they went outside to collect an Uber Eats order.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were watching a movie around 10 o\u2019clock and when I came out, I saw police lights,\u201d one said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just had a sneak peek. . . I just took my food, went back in. We were watching a movie, so it was very loud.\u201d<\/p>\n
