The Alpine Formula 1 team has completed its line-up for the 2027 season by retaining Franco Colapinto.<\/p>\n
Alpine executive advisor Briatore said in May<\/a> that he wanted to hold out on completing the team’s line-up for next season in case either of Mercedes’ drivers suddenly became available, in such a scenario as Max Verstappen choosing to move there.<\/p>\n But Briatore also said at that point that Colapinto was on the right trajectory to retain his seat, those comments coming shortly after a seventh-place finish in Miami, then a career-best sixth in Canada.<\/p>\n Any prospect of a Verstappen move has been extinguished anyway – the four-time F1 champion signed a new deal with Red Bull<\/a> ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix – and Alpine has now moved to extend Colapinto’s stay into the 2027 season.<\/p>\n The competitiveness of the Alpine – the clear midfield benchmark at the start of the season – waned in the lead-up to the summer break but Colapinto still scored points at three of the six grands prix before the mid-season pause.<\/p>\n The 23-year-old is 12th in the drivers’ championship, with 19 points to team-mate Pierre Gasly’s 44, in what still represents his first full season in F1.<\/p>\n Colapinto made his debut with Williams in 2024 – where he scored five points – before he was promoted to an Alpine race seat at Jack Doohan’s expense from round seven of the 2025 season, a campaign in which neither of those two drivers scored and in which Alpine prioritised its car for this year’s all-new rules era.<\/p>\n Gasly – who is 10th in the drivers’ standings and is the only driver outside of F1’s ‘big four’ teams to have scored a podium in 2026 – agreed a new deal with Alpine in September last year that is due to keep him with the team until the end of 2028.<\/a><\/p>\n
