After three successive losses, the Trinbago Knight Riders returned to winning ways with an emphatic seven-wicket win over the Barbados Tridents in Trinidad on Friday, August 28. The Knight Riders constricted their opponents by bowling 15 overs of spin before chasing the 128-run target in just 14.5 overs.<\/p>\n
The Powerplay was a struggle for the Tridents who were asked to bat first. Their first boundary came only at the end of the third over and while two sixes were struck in the following over, they made 31 runs in the first six overs while also losing Shian Brathwaite. Scoring didn\u2019t get any easier once the fielding restrictions eased and the Tridents weren\u2019t able to accelerate even as two catches went down.<\/p>\n
With the pressure mounting, batters kept finding fielders while attempting to break free. Wickets kept tumbling regularly and the Tridents had little to cheer about until the 17th over when Chris Green struck consecutive sixes. That gave them some momentum towards the end, with the final three overs yielding 30 runs but their total of 127 for 9 inspired little confidence.<\/p>\n
The Knight Riders\u2019 start with the bat was in stark contrast as Colin Munro began the innings by hammering Mujeeb Ur Rahman for two boundaries before ending the over with a towering six down the ground. That set the tone for the chase and the Powerplay ended with Sunil Narine taking down Mujeeb in a 16-run over. At 60 for no loss after six overs, the Knight Riders had nearly scored half the runs.<\/p>\n
Narine smashed consecutive sixes off Rivaldo Clarke right after the Powerplay and notched up his fifty two overs later. The openers had done all the heavy lifting before the 95-run stand ended when Munro holed out in the 10th over. The Knight Riders lost two more wickets in the next two overs but all it did was delay the inevitable as they romped to victory in the 15th over.<\/p>\n
