{"id":873316,"date":"2026-08-30T02:02:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-30T02:02:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/873316\/"},"modified":"2026-08-30T02:02:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-30T02:02:11","slug":"atlantic-notes-hedman-torontos-front-office-minten-pro-hockey-rumors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/873316\/","title":{"rendered":"Atlantic Notes: Hedman, Toronto\u2019s Front Office, Minten \u2013 Pro Hockey Rumors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"byline\">\n  By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prohockeyrumors.com\/author\/brianlarose\" title=\"Posts by Brian La Rose\" rel=\"author nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brian La Rose<\/a> |<br \/>\n  at August 29, 2026 4:01 pm  <\/p>\n<p>Lightning defenseman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hedmavi01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-29_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Victor Hedman<\/a> stepped away from the team in mid-March last season and didn\u2019t suit up the rest of the way for them.\u00a0 Speaking <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/news\/victor-hedman-ready-to-return-to-tampa-bay-lightning-after-taking-leave-of-absence\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">with NHL.com\u2019s Dan Rosen<\/a> earlier this week, the blueliner discussed his leave, calling it necessary from both a mental and physical standpoint.\u00a0 However, he is now fully past that and will be a full go for training camp on the back of a great summer.\u00a0 The 35-year-old was limited to just 33 games last season between injuries and his leave, though he still managed to pick up 17 points in those outings.\u00a0 Hedman could have a new defense partner this season with Tampa Bay\u2019s prominent acquisition this summer being veteran blueliner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/carlsjo01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-29_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">John Carlson<\/a>, who inked a two-year deal early in free agency.\u00a0 Carlson can still log heavy minutes, giving the Lightning a chance to not lean as hard on their captain out of the gate given how long it has been since Hedman last played.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in the Atlantic:<\/p>\n<p>On top of overhauling his player roster, new Maple Leafs GM John Chayka has overhauled his front office as well. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/sports\/leafs\/chayka-nomics-inside-the-maple-leafs-massive-front-office-purge-under-john-chayka\/article_23438469-2c7b-4360-83f6-092e466540ac.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star provides<\/a> an overview of the changes there, noting that 35 of 130 people on the staff directory last season are now gone, with most of those being Chayka setting his stamp on the team.\u00a0 The article also examines the new pecking order at the top of Toronto\u2019s front office, one that features several newcomers in prominent roles beyond Chayka himself.<br \/>\nBruins center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mintefr01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-29_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Fraser Minten<\/a> is in the final year of his entry-level deal, making him eligible to sign a contract extension.
