{"id":874155,"date":"2026-08-30T19:02:23","date_gmt":"2026-08-30T19:02:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/874155\/"},"modified":"2026-08-30T19:02:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-30T19:02:23","slug":"big-ws-12-butter-dish-set-to-be-the-must-have-of-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/874155\/","title":{"rendered":"Big W\u2019s $12 butter dish set to be the must-have of summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On an Australian summer kitchen counter, few things can live without melting, including butter. <\/p>\n<p>But when it comes to romanticising the remedial, not even 40-degree heat will stop Aussies keen to embrace the cottagecore aesthetic.<\/p>\n<p>Big W has officially launched its Spring\/Summer \u201826 collection, where it seems nostalgia has officially proven itself to not only be a passing internet trend, but a permanent fixture of Australian living and personal style. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"poster-img\" src=\"https:\/\/content.api.news\/v3\/images\/bin\/de8117eb5b82ea3c17c3f3f212f5c05d\" data-sctrack=\"op-poster-img\" alt=\"Parents go bananas over $2 pram hack\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<p>With 80 per cent of the new collection priced under $20, the range spans everything from pops of lime green in bedding to breezy, summer tick-of-approval apparel. <\/p>\n<p>But there\u2019s one piece that is guaranteed to be a standout \u2013 a $12 hand-illustrated butter dish. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery year our butter dishes sell incredibly well, and just like mugs, we\u2019ve found our customers love collecting our new designs each season,\u201d Julie Le, BIG W Home Designer told news.com.au. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith more Australians enjoying home baking, bread-making, and hosting at home lately, we wanted to design \u2018cottagecore\u2019-inspired pieces that tap into that nostalgic, cosy \u2018grandma\u2019s kitchen\u2019 aesthetic, which looks gorgeous on a modern table.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The collection is inspired by a cottage located in Bowral, a country town that\u2019s just over an hour drive from Sydney\u2019s CBD. <\/p>\n<p>The cottage had \u201cbeautiful gardens filled with lavender and herbs\u201d that left an impression. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love to draw inspiration from personal experiences and beautiful locations I\u2019ve visited,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p>The retailer monitors social media trends and conversations its customer base is having so it can deliver what the modern Aussie family is looking for. <\/p>\n<p>The butter dish trend is a prime example of that. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt instantly elevates the experience for guests to have soft, ready-to-spread butter on the table during a meal, and it can be popped back into the fridge afterwards,\u201d Ms Le explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeyond the kitchen, the piece is incredibly versatile and can be repurposed as a trinket dish or decorative display throughout the home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On social media, the butter dish has trended into a genuine cult kitchen favourite, rather than an outdated relic. <\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s even a dedicated \u2018ButterTok\u2019 community where people share their tricks, aesthetic restocks, and hauls of their quirky ceramic finds. <\/p>\n<p>Online, there are dozens of forums asking for clarifications around butter storage, while others sing praises for countertop-stored butter. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will be using this every single day, until the day I die,\u201d a user said, opening the butter dish from Big W\u2019s previous collection on <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@brittanytiarneb\/video\/7626643484405026068\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TikTok<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would like soft butter which doesn\u2019t tear up my toast. But I also don\u2019t want to get sick either,\u201d one user ponders on Reddit. <\/p>\n<p>Others proclaim they\u2019ll \u201cnever go back\u201d or that it\u2019s a \u201cneed not a want.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>In Australia, butter can be stored safely on the counter for a few days during the winter months; however, when the warmer months do hit, safety guidelines recommend popping it back into the fridge when not in use. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not just the home Big W is committed to making look trendy. But the closet too. <\/p>\n<p>The collection is accessible and is designed with versatility in mind so you get more than one occasion out of each piece. <\/p>\n<p>Fisherman core was at the centre of the design brief, which is all about lofty comfort and pared-back, effortless charm. <\/p>\n<p>Designers in the clothing department follow a similar workflow as the homeware team, studying social media chatter, customer feedback and high-end catwalks to discover the next big thing. <\/p>\n<p>BIG W\u2019s Style Consultant, Jules Robinson, has been trialling items in the range, discovering some fast favourites that will work on every body. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not fashion that only works on one body, one age or for one type of woman. With styles across sizes 6\u201326 in &amp; me and Avella, there are so many pieces that women can actually make their own,\u201d Jules Robinson told news.com.au. <\/p>\n<p>She encourages Aussies looking to give the wardrobe a refresh after winter to lean into colour and style experimentation. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe $30 Shirred Midi Dress in Mauve, landing late September, is one of my favourites.
