{"id":874502,"date":"2026-08-31T02:22:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T02:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/874502\/"},"modified":"2026-08-31T02:22:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T02:22:12","slug":"supercars-talks-on-locked-spool-versus-diff-debate-tim-edwards-comments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/874502\/","title":{"rendered":"Supercars talks on locked spool versus diff debate, Tim Edwards comments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SUPERCARS chief motorsport officer Tim Edwards has confirmed there are ongoing discussions around an eternal debate regarding the category\u2019s unique differential.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Supercars uses a locked spool that keeps both rear wheels turning at the same speed as opposed to the more conventional limited slip differential.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several members of the paddock have long pushed for a move away from the spool.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While there are mixed views on whether or not it would improve the on-track racing product, a diff certainly is figured to be a means of making Supercars more driveable for international stars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Supercars have tended to be notoriously difficult for high-profile drivers from other categories to get up to speed in, such as NASCAR\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2400-Austin-Cindric\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Austin Cindric<\/a> or IndyCar\u2019s Alexander Rossi and James Hinchcliffe. There continues to be a desire for NASCAR wildcard entries at Adelaide, with General Motors having tabbed Connor Zilisch as a possibility for this November\u2019s season finale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asked if discussions are taking place on the spool versus diff, Edwards affirmed to V8 Sleuth: \u201cAbsolutely.
