As part of that celebration, the team gave away 20,000 Jimothy rookie cards, some of which were more limited variations, including one with a gold border. The lucky recipient of the golden card was a 13-year-old girl named Abby, who attended the game between the Mariners and Detroit Tigers with her family.

Abby’s mother, Jessie Nino, told the Seattle Times that the family didn’t realize the significance of the card until nearby fans saw it and let them know it was one of a kind. According to the report, the family received cash offers for the card during the game and a Mariners staffer attempted to work out a deal on behalf of pitcher George Kirby.

“I was just like, ‘Look, guys … nobody’s trying to get rich off this,’” Nino told the Seattle Times. “But if we can leverage this for Abby’s college or Abby’s future home purchase, we’re going to be smart about it.”

The Mariners gave away 20,000 “Jimothy” rookie cards on “Jimothy Night,” including one with a gold border.
