Fans attending next week\u2019s historic NFL clash at the MCG have been warned they can carry only clear plastic bags into the venue and cannot bring their own food or drink.<\/p>\n

The NFL has released its updated prohibited items list ahead of the sellout game between the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers on Friday, September 11.<\/p>\n

The league says it \u201cstrongly encourages\u201d fans to not bring a bag, and will only allow patrons to have one large bag which is clear, vinyl or PVC up to a size of 12 inches (high) x 12 inches (wide) x six inches (deep), unless approved for medical purposes.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the key differences that fans may not be used to on game day is our clear-bag policy. Safety for our fans and players is our highest priority and this bag policy is a simple step that helps keep our event safe, secure and efficient for everyone attending,\u201d an NFL spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFans are prohibited from bringing bags into the stadium unless they comply with our clear-bag policy. Full details and exactly what is permitted is available on the NFL OnePass app. We will also have clear bags available for purchase from the NFL shops in both the CBD and at Kickoff Festival ahead of game day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Small non-clear bags no larger than 4.5 inches x 6.5 inches, such as a purse, are allowed.<\/p>\n

The NFL\u2019s strict policy for this game is standard for games held in the US.<\/p>\n

Computers, iPads, tablets and luggage of any kind are also banned, while nappy bags will have to be approved unless medically necessary.<\/p>\n

The NFL also said \u201coutside food, beverage of any kind\u201d are also prohibited from being taken into the ground, fans unable to even bring in a sandwich. Flasks are also banned.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne example is drink bottles, there are no hard-sided water bottles of any kind, including hard plastic permitted into the venue. Soft plastic bottles are permitted and should be empty at the time of entry,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The ban on food and drink adds to the expense for fans who have paid hundreds of dollars for general admission tickets.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you arrive at the MCG, we will have loads of activations, activities from our partners, food trucks with American and Californian flavours, and all of the things you can imagine at a major sporting event.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first NFL game on Australian soil for regular season points kicks off at 10.35am (AEST), with gates open from 7am.<\/p>\n

The NFL has urged fans to get to the ground early to ensure entry through mandatory security screenings is as smooth as possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe encourage fans to familiarise themselves with the prohibited items list before game day, travel light where possible and allow additional time for screening through security gates as they arrive,\u201d the NFL spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy planning ahead and understanding what can and cannot be brought into the venue, fans can help ensure a smoother entry process and spend more time enjoying all the excitement of this historic event.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know that things might look a little bit different on game day, but by ensuring that you have your digital ticket ready, not bringing any prohibited items, and having the correct bags will ensure everyone moves through security smoothly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Footballs, selfie sticks, air horns, whistles and bells are also banned, while anyone not wearing shoes or a shirt will not be allowed in.<\/p>\n

\u201cThings might look a little bit different to what sports fans are used to at the MCG, and we encourage fans to download the NFL OnePass app before game day so they can spend less time at the gate and more time enjoying all of the action.\u201d<\/p>\n

This clash is one of nine international NFL matches across seven countries this season, the most ever, as the league looks to spread its fan and financial imprint.<\/p>\n

The NFL has confirmed that the Jonas Brothers will headline the half-time show at the MCG.<\/p>\n
