Tudum<\/a>. <\/p>\nFamily and friends recall attending the couple\u2019s wedding at their church with great sadness and worry. <\/p>\n
\u201cI just attended to be there for Mica, but I did not support their marriage,\u201d Ms Francis said. <\/p>\n
Close friend, Charlotte Korn, recalls some of the rules that Mica was dictated by. <\/p>\n
\u201cMica told me multiple times, \u2018Don\u2019t call me before 11:00, unless I call you first. John-Paul does not like it if I get out of bed before him,\u2019\u201d she explained in the documentary. <\/p>\n
JP preached that a wife\u2019s duty was to serve as her husband\u2019s \u201chelpmate\u201d, with sex as a non-negotiable obligation. <\/p>\n
\u201cDo not refuse sex to each other, then Satan won\u2019t be able to tempt you because of your lack of self-control,\u201d he told his congregation at one point. <\/p>\n
In another, he insists: \u201cIf you don\u2019t meet your husband\u2019s sexual needs, Satan will put 20 different options before his eyes before the day\u2019s over.\u201d <\/p>\n
Perhaps the most concerning factor to the family was JP having \u201ccontrol over her medically.\u201d <\/p>\n
Mica was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, dependent personality disorder, and experienced manic episodes. <\/p>\n
Throughout their relationship, she was committed to mental health facilities, with her siblings\u2019 alleging they weren\u2019t always voluntary on her part, and JP had a habit of restricting her from medication. <\/p>\n
Eventually, Mica attempted to leave after the discovery of an affair with his current wife, Suzie Skinner, whom he married in 2025. <\/p>\n
The documentary alleges the harassment became relentless, with claims he slashed her tyres, posted a naked photo of her online and left her countless text messages and voice messages. <\/p>\n
She made dozens of calls for help to emergency services in March and April amid their 2024 split. <\/p>\n
In a handwritten affidavit, she wrote: \u201cSince the day we became husband and wife, I have been abused in every way I can think of \u2013 emotionally, sexually, spiritually, financially, and physically.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Francis recalled her sister\u2019s chilling warning \u201con many occasions\u201d \u2013 \u201cIf I end up with a bullet in my head, it was not by me; it was JP.\u201d <\/p>\n
April 27, 2024, her body was discovered by a kayaker in a state park in North Carolina, a short time after she made a chilling 911 call. <\/p>\n
A chilling call<\/p>\n
CCTV showed Mica attending a pawn shop where she purchased the gun hours beforehand. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m about to kill myself, and I just want my family to know where I am,\u201d she said during the call. <\/p>\n
The conversation lasted just over two minutes, however the dispatcher was able to ping her phone signal successfully to send officers. <\/p>\n
At the scene, detectives noted the discovery of two shell casings, despite Mica suffering a single fatal wound. <\/p>\n
Her body was also located face down in the water, roughly 30 metres away from those casings and her personal belongings. <\/p>\n
The autopsy concluded there were no physical signs of struggle or self-defence. <\/p>\n
The circumstances surrounding her death have sent social media into detective mode.<\/p>\n
\u201cFinally Netflix is using the platform for good cause, highlighting such horrible cases of manipulation,\u201d one person wrote. <\/p>\n
Another claimed: \u201cThat church was a CULT! No way the members sat there and listened to him preaching about those things.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cCould someone have used an app to recreate her voice on the 911 call?\u201d a third questioned. <\/p>\n
JP has never been officially accused of involvement in her death, with police confirming his alibi and finding no physical evidence linking him to the scene. <\/p>\n
Less than 24 hours later he stood at the pulpit of the church announcing Mica had died by suicide before the coroner\u2019s ruling had been completed. <\/p>\n
\u201cY\u2019all knew that she wasn\u2019t well mentally,\u201d he told the congregation. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnd that she needed her medicine that was hard to get to her \u2026 just keep our family in your prayers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Family and friends reported JP became obsessive in the days and weeks that followed, attempting to access her belongings. <\/p>\n
Mica\u2019s therapist, Laura Hucks, claims he also attempted to access her journals and her counsellor\u2019s notes. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe tried to take control of every communication she could have possibly had with any person, so he could end her narrative and start his narrative,\u201d Ms Hucks explained. <\/p>\n
Both JP and his new wife, Suzie Skinner, refused to participate in the documentary or sit down with Netflix for an interview.<\/p>\n
JP is currently facing charges of allegedly cyberstalking Mica prior to her passing and making false statements to the FBI. <\/p>\n
\u201cThough JP did not kill her, through over a decade of grooming her from a young age, and then the abuse in all sorts of ways \u2026 there was an escalation of the abuse, both mentally and psychologically, that led her to those circumstances,\u201d Goldstein says. <\/p>\n
