If completed at that level, the Angels deal would become the latest in a string of blockbuster sales that have redefined what an MLB franchise is worth.<\/p>\n
The Dodgers\u2019 $2.15 billion sale in 2012 once looked enormous. Steve Cohen\u2019s $2.4 billion purchase of the Mets pushed the market higher in 2020. The Padres then jumped to $3.9 billion in 2026.<\/p>\n
Now the Angels are poised to move the line again.<\/p>\n
And for Kroenke, who was among the finalists to buy the Dodgers in 2012, the timing adds another layer: Fourteen years after missing out, he is expected to pay nearly twice as much for his way into baseball.<\/p>\n

Steve Cohen purchased the Mets from the Wilpon and Katz families.<\/p>\n
4. Dodgers \u2014 2012: $2.15 billion
The record-setting Guggenheim deal beat out a group of bidders that included Kroenke.<\/p>\n

David Rubenstein\u2019s group purchased the franchise from the Angelos family.<\/p>\n

Patrick Zalupski\u2019s group acquired Tampa Bay from Stuart Sternberg.<\/p>\n
7. Marlins \u2014 2017: $1.2 billion
Bruce Sherman and Derek Jeter\u2019s group bought Miami from Jeffrey Loria.<\/p>\n
The Dodgers may have been the one that got away, but Kroenke did not exactly stand still afterward. His Rams won a Super Bowl, while the Nuggets and Avalanche each captured championships.<\/p>\n
Now he has finally broken into baseball.<\/p>\n
