Mauricio \u201cShogun\u201d Rua lost a decision in a boxing match with fellow UFC legend Glover Teixeira this past Saturday night in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and has already walked back on his retirement talks to ask for a rematch.<\/p>\n
Rua, who told MMA Fighting prior to the match he would likely retire<\/a> regardless of the outcome in his first bout since retiring from the UFC in January of 2023, posted a video<\/a> on social media asking for an immediate rematch in Spaten Fight Night.<\/p>\n \u201cBecause a true warrior never gives up,\u201d Rua said. \u201cGuys, I think the fairest thing would be a rematch, Glover and I on the next Spaten event, because it was an absolute war. You guys saw it. He dropped me in the second round. Glover was really rocked in the fifth round.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, guys, I think I deserve that rematch at the next Spaten. What do you think? You watching from home, what do you guys think? Glover, are you up for one more?\u201d<\/p>\n Rua\u2019s former teammate Anderson Silva weighed in on the callout in the comment section of the Instagram post, advising \u201cShogun\u201d to stop competing in sports that involve strikes.<\/p>\n \u201cDo it with the gi,\u201d Silva wrote. \u201cJiu-jitsu is safer, brother. You have nothing to prove to anyone, you have a lot of history.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cLet\u2019s keep training and see what\u2019s happening,\u201d Teixeira told MMA Fighting on Saturday. \u201cThree and a half years out, maybe a little ring rust, maybe going too much, but I think now, if I have a fight in the next six months or so, maybe I\u2019ll be better.\u201d<\/p>\n
