Former great Michael Hussey is set to sign a part-time coaching deal with Cricket Australia, slamming the door on a move to England, according to reports.<\/p>\n

It emerged in August that the Australian great had been approached by new England coach Stephen Fleming about his interest in becoming the team\u2019s new batting coach ahead of the 2027 Ashes.<\/p>\n

Hussey, who has worked at a number of T20 franchises around the world as well as as a commentator for Fox Cricket\u2018s Test and BBL coverage, told Fox Sports last month the offer was \u201cexciting\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact that you\u2019re working with a new country, a new team that you haven\u2019t had experience with before \u2013 that certainly interests me,\u201d Hussey told colleagues Brendon Julian and Kerry O\u2019Keeffe on Fox Cricket\u2019s The Big Break during the second Test between Australia and Bangladesh.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut as I said, there\u2019s a few balls that I\u2019ve got in the air \u2013 Welsh Fire, Chennai Super Kings \u2026 plus my son! I\u2019ve got to throw balls to my son in the backyard as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot to consider, I\u2019m not rushing into any decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Guardian<\/a> has reported that Hussey has chosen a consultancy role with CA, boosting the organisation\u2019s backroom staff ahead of the 2027 Ashes in England.<\/p>\n

The report claims the 51-year old\u2019s choice is due to the extra flexibility of the role in comparison to England and Fleming\u2019s batting coach offer.<\/p>\n

The position will allow him to continue his commentary duties with Fox Cricket, while enabling him to continue to coach Welsh Fire in England\u2019s Hundred competition and Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, where he is the batting coach.<\/p>\n

Hussey would have been a major boost for England ahead of a brutal calendar which includes next year\u2019s Ashes as well as a winter tour of South Africa.<\/p>\n

He previously worked with the team during their T20 World Cup triumph in Australia in 2022.<\/p>\n

According to reports, former England great and 2005 Ashes hero Marcus Trescothick, who has served as caretaker coach during the team\u2019s ongoing Test series against Pakistan, is firming to be Fleming\u2019s permanent batting coach.<\/p>\n

After making his Test debut as a 30-year old in late 2005, Hussey went on to forge a stellar career across 79 Tests, 185 ODIs and 38 T20Is for Australia.<\/p>\n

He announced his international retirement in January 2013, finishing with 6235 Test runs at an average of 51.52 and as a World Cup winner at the 2007 tournament.<\/p>\n
