{"id":877072,"date":"2026-09-02T05:52:17","date_gmt":"2026-09-02T05:52:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/877072\/"},"modified":"2026-09-02T05:52:17","modified_gmt":"2026-09-02T05:52:17","slug":"shane-van-gisbergen-talks-nascar-cup-series-approach-after-chase-miss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/877072\/","title":{"rendered":"Shane van Gisbergen talks NASCAR Cup Series approach after Chase miss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SHANE van Gisbergen remains proud of his progress despite missing The Chase, and feels freed up to take more risk through the remainder of the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SVG was brutally bumped from the final playoffs spot by Ryan Preece in the last race of the regular season, leaving him out of the hunt as the show now rolls on to Darlington Raceway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe reality is that we have struggled a bit, but I\u2019m happy on the #97 side, personally, to have matched Ross (Chastain, teammate),\u201d said Trackhouse Racing\u2019s Kiwi star.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe know how good he is on the ovals, and I think I\u2019ve made a big jump this year to be able to match him most weeks. And obviously Connor (Zilisch), as well, is a huge talent, so to be comparable to those guys has been really cool for me this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of hard work going on, but we definitely need to improve if we want to have that opportunity at making it (The Chase) next season.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/1-64-scale-track-stars-2023-bathurst-1000-winner-97-van-gisbergen-stanaway-model?utm_source=website&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=buy-button&amp;utm_content=buy-button\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/TS64-GR26S1-C23-97BW-ProductImage.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe season is not over yet, but I\u2019m proud that I\u2019m closer to my teammates on ovals,\u201d he reiterated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ve managed to have a pretty good year. Obviously, I want us to do better as a team, and as team we aren\u2019t quite there yet.
