A husband who used a robot vacuum cleaner to catch his wife cheating has been sent to jail after a court found he invaded her privacy.

The Taiwan-based man secretly activated the camera on the robot vacuum and captured footage of his wife with another man inside their holiday home.

He then used the footage in divorce proceedings after they were married in 2021.

But while his wife was ordered to pay him damages over the affair, the husband was later slapped with a five-month jail sentence for secretly filming her.

The extraordinary case began after the husband became suspicious when he found a toothbrush that belonged to neither him nor his wife at their holiday home.

The husband then checked CCTV footage from outside the property and allegedly discovered a man repeatedly dropping his wife home.

Months later, in December 2023, the husband remotely activated the robot vacuum from his parents’ home, where the couple lived.

He reportedly attempted to turn on the device’s audio function but instead activated the live camera.

The camera caught his wife with her lover, according to the South China Morning Post.

The husband then recorded the pair undressing and walking naked around the holiday home.

Armed with the footage, he launched divorce proceedings and sought more than $88,000 in damages from his wife.

A civil court found her affair had “gone beyond the bounds of friendship” and ordered her to pay her former partner more than $41,000.

But the bizarre twist was far from over.

His wife later took him to the criminal court, accusing him of invading her privacy by secretly recording her.

The husband argued the footage had already been accepted as evidence in the civil case.

The criminal court rejected his defence, ruling that marriage did not override an individual’s right to privacy.

The husband was sentenced to five months behind bars and ordered to pay his former wife almost $6620.

[2
23800,48,43,44,41,39,42,40,1346
post-877156","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-headlines","tag-courts-justice","tag-crime","tag-headlines","tag-news","tag-top-news","tag-top-stories","tag-topnews","tag-topstories","tag-world-news
["GET
