We first reported<\/a> earlier this year that Funko, best known for its popular Pop! Vinyls line, would be producing a line of Narnia products based on Greta Gerwig\u2019s upcoming adaptation<\/a> of The Magician\u2019s Nephew. Now, updated listings from several international sellers have given us our first hints at what the film\u2019s marketing may emphasize.<\/p>\n

Depending on the market, it appears that up to five figures will be released. Three will be standard-sized Pop! figures, while the remaining two are listed as a Super and a Premium figure.<\/p>\n

More revealing are the product descriptions accompanying the figures, several of which reference key elements of the story:<\/p>\n

Every legend has a beginning. Funko POP! The Magician\u2019s Nephew makes a Super-line addition to your Chronicles of Narnia collection.<\/p>\n

The most notable detail is the explicit mention of magic rings. In C.S. Lewis\u2019 novel, Uncle Andrew\u2019s rings allow Digory and Polly (and a Guinea Pig<\/a>) to travel into the Wood between the Worlds, setting them on the path to Narnia.<\/p>\n

While it would hardly come as a surprise to Narnia fans that the rings would feature in an adaptation of The Magician\u2019s Nephew, this is our first indication from the film\u2019s licensed merchandise that they will play a role in Gerwig\u2019s adaptation.<\/p>\n

The references to Narnia\u2019s creation and the story\u2019s origins are fairly straightforward, particularly given Netflix\u2019s current logline<\/a>, which says the film will invite audiences to \u201cexperience the creation of Narnia.\u201d But the line about a \u201csingle step through a garden\u201d is more open to interpretation.<\/p>\n

Of course, Funko\u2019s product listings aren\u2019t necessarily intended to provide detailed plot information. Still, with Netflix yet to release a trailer for the film, even these small details offer an interesting glimpse at how The Magician\u2019s Nephew is being presented to the public \u2014 and potentially at which elements of the story will receive particular emphasis in the marketing.<\/p>\n
