ICC announces more changes ahead of the T20 tournament’s inaugural edition<\/p>\n

The inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy originally scheduled to be held in Sri \u200cLanka will now take place in India in February next \u200cyear, the International Cricket Council have confirmed.<\/p>\n

Reigning T20 World Cup champions Australia, England, India, \u200bNew \u200bZealand, South Africa and \u200bSri Lanka are the six \u200cteams that will compete in a round-robin league, with the top two sides advancing to the final on February 28.<\/p>\n

The six teams qualified for the T20 tournament based on their positions in the ICC’s rankings at the July 6 cut-off date\u00a0\u2013 the day after Australia beat England at Lord’s to lift the 2026 T20 World Cup.<\/p>\n

The ICC \u200cstripped Sri Lanka of the event due to government interference in the board of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), which has an interim committee in place for an \u200coverhaul of \u200cthe \u2060governance framework at the SLC.<\/p>\n

“The first-ever edition \u200bof the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy will take place from February 14 to 28 in India next year,” the ICC said in a statement.<\/p>\n

“The event was originally \u2060scheduled to take place \u200cin \u200bSri Lanka but has now been moved to \u200bIndia as Sri \u200cLanka Cricket continues to make the requisite reforms \u200boutlined at the ICC’s Annual Conference in July.”<\/p>\n

The matches will be held at \u200bthe Cricket Club of India in Mumbai and \u200bVadodara’s International Cricket \u2060Stadium.<\/p>\n

It’s the second time the tournament originally planned for next June<\/a> has been rescheduled, prompting Cricket Australia to move its marquee ODI and T20 series against New Zealand.<\/p>\n
