Parliament House mistakenly raised two New Zealand flags among the 44 flags displayed to celebrate Australian National Flag Day.

Australia celebrated Australian National Flag Day on Thursday to commemorate the first time the Australian National Flag was flown in 1901.

Parliament House in Canberra marked the occasion by flying the Australian National Flag on 44 ceremonial flagpoles outside the building.

In an embarrassing blunder, two of the flags raised were actually the flags of New Zealand.

The flags were quickly replaced after the mistake was noticed, with the two rogue flags removed.

The Australian flag shares similarities with the New Zealand flag, with the main difference being the seven-pointed Commonwealth Star on the Australian flag and not on the New Zealand flag.

On its website, Parliament House describes the event as a celebration of “values and fairness”.

“This year marks the 125th anniversary of Federation, the adoption of the Constitution, the first sitting of Commonwealth Parliament on 9 May 1901, and the first official flying of the Australian National Flag,” the website reads.

“Australian National Flag Day is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the values of fairness, aspiration and opportunity that unite us.”

Parliament House mistakenly raised two New Zealand flags among the 44 flags displayed to celebrate Australian National Flag…

[4
447790,447799,447801,447792,125575,380230,387703,447803,447802,382345,447785,64,63,339380,306869,447796,447791,2667,447784,164090,225525,447788,444449,447806,1736,447798,44,399346,43016,20246,84,401895,447804,447805,383988,391452,447782,393410,447800,380229,447794,447795,376549,447793,447783,447807,447797,417673,447781,447787,441999,385649,364611,9357,447786,447789
post-878428","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-australia","tag-values-and-fairness","tag-447799","tag-44-australian-flags","tag-44-ceremonial-flagpoles","tag-125575","tag-a-celebration","tag-a-ceremony","tag-all-australians","tag-an-embarrassing-blunder","tag-an-opportunity","tag-aspiration-and-opportunity","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-australia-politics","tag-australian-flag","tag-australian-flag-day","tag-australian-national-flag-day","tag-canberra","tag-commonwealth-parliament","tag-fairness","tag-federation","tag-istock-new-zealand","tag-its-website","tag-may-1901","tag-new-zealand","tag-new-zealand-flags","tag-news","tag-news24","tag-parliament-house","tag-picture","tag-politics","tag-similarities","tag-the-125th-anniversary","tag-the-44-flags","tag-the-adoption","tag-the-australian-flag","tag-the-australian-national-flag","tag-the-building","tag-the-constitution","tag-the-event","tag-the-first-official","tag-the-first-sitting","tag-the-first-time","tag-the-flags","tag-the-main-difference","tag-the-mistake","tag-the-new-zealand-flag","tag-the-occasion","tag-the-seven-pointed-commonwealth-star","tag-the-two-rogue-flags","tag-the-values","tag-the-website","tag-this-year","tag-thursday","tag-two-new-zealand-flags","tag-wrong-flag
["GET
