Actress Kate Beckinsale<\/a> has shared an emotional video highlighting the difficulties of navigating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).<\/p>\n

Beckinsale, 53, said that while there\u2019s plenty of research around military PTSD, people with civilian PTSD<\/a> are not always given the same level of understanding.<\/p>\n

Actress Kate Beckinsale has admitted to being in a \u201clonely place\u201d in two lengthy videos opening up about the difficulties of navigating PTSD.\u00a0Instagram\/@katebeckinsale<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are men and women and children who have seen such absolute horror or experienced such absolute horror that their nervous system is permanently altered as a result,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of those people become incredibly good at masking it, and it\u2019s sad because they become so good that they get no grace whatsoever.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey get up, they go to work, they look after their kids, they provide for their family, they have a laugh, they\u2019re the fun person, but they don\u2019t sleep for more than an hour because when they do, it\u2019s full of nightmares.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnything \u2013 smells, sounds, thoughts, feelings \u2013 can trigger them into a place that is actually like hell.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Click actress urged people to \u201cbe kind\u201d to others because you never know what someone might be going through. <\/p>\n

\u201cGiven the fact that it\u2019s invisible, and you can\u2019t know, maybe err on the side of being gentler with people, being kinder,\u201d she continued. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt really is true that when you haven\u2019t walked a mile in someone\u2019s shoes \u2013 however fancy you think the shoes are \u2013 you have absolutely no idea what they might be carrying, masking, dealing with day and night.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomeone with PTSD is on their own with it, by definition \u2026 so those are the loneliest people.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re alone with a level of horror that\u2019s incompatible with life and yet, a lot of times those people continue to try and put one foot in front of the other.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kate Beckinsale lost her mother after a battle to cancer in 2025. \u00a0Instagram\/@Katebeckinsale<\/p>\n

In a second video, the actress reminded people that August 30 is National Grief Awareness Day in the US. <\/p>\n

\u201cPeople who have PTSD have seen the worst of mortality and tried to keep going,\u201d she explained. <\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe don\u2019t always tell a person how strong they are. Maybe that person is just crushed under the weight of having been strong for years \u2026 and their strength has been misinterpreted as not needing gentleness.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are people who are silently caregiving, watching their loved ones deteriorate in horrifying and frightening ways that they\u2019re not medically qualified to deal with. And they do it on their own. And it can break them, especially when everyone else relies on the trope of saying, \u2018Wow you\u2019re so strong.\u2019 The person needs, \u2018I\u2019ll be here if you need to fall apart\u2019.<\/p>\n

Beckinsale previously admitted her grief has made it hard to eat. \u00a0Getty<\/p>\n

\u201cBut most people aren\u2019t capable of providing that safety. So, try to become a person who can provide that safety. You could be the difference for someone.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress has been open about her struggles with grief following the passing of her mother Judy Loe in July 2025, who died after a battle with stage 4 cancer.<\/p>\n

At the time of her mother\u2019s passing, Beckinsale\u00a0revealed she \u201cdied in [her] arms\u201d and admitted she was struggling to cope with the \u201cshock and trauma\u201d of the loss in a series of Instagram posts. <\/p>\n

Beckinsale also lost her stepfather Roy Battersby after he suffered a massive stroke.<\/p>\n

She also lost her father, Richard Beckinsale when she was five years old after he suffered from a heart attack. <\/p>\n
