After 238 games in Melbourne’s red and blue, former skipper and premiership player Jack Viney<\/a> could be on the move.<\/p>\n

Viney managed just one appearance at AFL<\/a> level this season, appearing rusty in his side’s Wildcard Round loss at Carlton’s hand, after battling back bravely from an Achilles injury.<\/p>\n

This season, the Demons ushered in a new era of fun and attacking football, powered by the exuberance of youth. Viney’s archetype, that of an in and under, bash and crash specialist, and age, relative to his teammates led to a “robust” exit meeting with coach Steven King<\/a> and co, per\u00a0afl.com.au’s Cal Twomey.<\/p>\n

It is believed that the Demons did not explicitly tell Viney to seek a move away from Gosch’s Paddock, but did inform the veteran that they would continue to prioritise youth, and would not stand in his way if he looked to extend his career elsewhere.<\/p>\n

Viney is contract-bound to the Demons until the conclusion of the 2028 season.<\/p>\n

Alongside Nathan Jones<\/a>, Viney co-captained the Demons from 2017 to 2019 inclusive, before Max Gawn<\/a> took over as the club’s sole leader.<\/p>\n

Viney and his father Todd became the first father-son duo to both have captained the Demons when Jack was appointed.<\/p>\n

Viney was drafted to the Demons with Pick 26 in the 2012 National Draft, under the father-son concession.<\/p>\n
