There was once a time when you struggled to get a really high-quality, special watch for under £400 outside the realm of brands like Seiko. Nowadays, the landscape looks rather different. Social media played a huge part in that momentum, with certain watches garnering significant attention in collector circles, showcasing celebrity wrist-snaps, and introducing the non-watch-enthusiast public to a new hobby, creating many new watch-heads in the process. While it’s true that no single watch is to blame for this escalation, there are definitely some brands that played a big part in the game. One such brand is Brew Watch Co.

The independent American brand, led by Johnathan Ferrer, first appeared on our pages in 2021, but its history goes much further back. Founded in 2015, Brew set out with a particular design language of retro-style TV-case designs that genuinely stood out as different. Then the Metric appeared, with its distinctive TV-shaped integrated-bracelet form and quirky, bug-eyed chronograph styling, designed specifically for timing coffee shots. The watch was a hit, and since then, Brew has gone from strength to strength, building on each model with subtle improvements and design upgrades, while never straying from its distinctive design language. Fast forward to 2026, and Brew has arguably become one of the most recognisable brands in the microbrand space, and now we’re very proud to announce that, finally, Brew Watches are available at the Time+Tide Studio in New York City. It’s the only retail space in the United States where you can pick one up, so here’s a complete breakdown of every watch available.

Metric – Retro Dial Chronograph

Potentially the most recognisable watch from the brand is the Metric Retro dial. This colourful, quirky, TV-shaped chronograph burst onto the scene with hits of contrasting colour and a look that made everyone stop and say “what is that?” At 36mm wide and with a lug-to-lug measurement of 41.5mm, it seems like it would be a small watch; however, its integrated design means it fits a wide variety of wrists rather well. It’s powered by a hybrid Seiko VK68 meca-quartz movement, meaning you get all the longevity and reliability of a Japanese quartz movement, with the satisfying clunk of a mechanical chronograph, thanks to the mechanical module, which you activate with the pushers. It’s paired with a gorgeously subtle, rippled copper dial framed by a black chapter ring, and finished with black dial furniture. It’s a time-only piece, so it lacks the chronograph functionality seen elsewhere in the range, but it’s definitely a looker. With an exhibition caseback, the mechanical movement is on full view from the back, making this one of Brew’s more sophisticated Metrics. It takes on the same form as the Retro dial model, with the same stainless steel case and bracelet, along with the mechanical chronograph pushers, but this time it pairs it with a slightly different dial. The Retro dial focuses on a 1970s-style look combining hits of teal, yellow, orange, and silver, while this model pares things back a little, reducing the colours to simply, you guessed it, teal and yellow. It shares the same matte black dial base but simplifies the colour scheme, offering a surprisingly different look altogether. It’s a Metric that stands out from the others, but make no mistake, it’s anything but subtle. Slightly larger and more classic-looking, its stablemate, the Retrograph, comes in a 38mm cushion case design, paired with a leather strap. PVD-coated in rose gold, its 316L stainless steel case offers a warmer look, with softer edges and more subtle chronograph pushers. It offers a useful 50 metres of water resistance, making it an excellent everyday wearer. This particular model, the Retrograph Espresso Chronograph, arrives with a chocolate espresso sunburst dial, which pairs beautifully with the case. It also features those signature 35-second markings around the minute track, denoting the perfect timing for a perfect coffee press. This too is powered by the hybrid meca-quartz chronograph, making it ultra-reliable and retaining that satisfying click when timing coffee shots. In fact, it was the first Brew we featured back in 2021. This Retrograph was actually a re-issue of an early Brew model, something which hardcore early Brew fans went crazy for. It features the 38mm rectangular cushion case, this time in radially brushed 316L stainless steel, paired with a navy blue dial accented by multiple coloured details on the hour markers, minute track, hands, and sub-dials. While it is an overtly colourful watch, the Retrograph Technicolour Chronograph manages to stay fairly restrained, with subtle details such as the coffee-shot timer appearing on the minute track without being too obvious. Again, powered by the meca-quartz chronograph movement, it offers excellent accuracy, reliability, and, importantly, fantastic value for money. Well, that would be the Metric Lite Gold & Black Automatic. It builds on the signature integrated TV-case design of the larger Metric model, but shrinks it down to a 30mm-wide silhouette while retaining slim proportions, including a 10.5mm thickness. It’s PVD-coated in yellow gold, giving it a much dressier look, and somehow manages to squeeze in an automatic-winding Miyota 6T27 calibre movement. The time-only dial offers a classic black-and-gold combo, with the black dial beautifully contrasting the applied index markings. This isn’t a Metric just for ladies; it offers a completely different wear experience from the larger Metric range, leaning towards the current trend of smaller, dressier pieces, for an extremely accessible price tag. This time, the case is in naturally coloured, brushed 316L stainless steel, again in 30mm, and beautifully proportioned with its TV-shaped case and bezel, with the Miyota automatic movement squeezed inside. The dial is finished in Tahitian mother-of-pearl, delivering shimmering hits of teal, silver, pink and purple, with each dial, of course, being completely unique. This is a particularly interesting piece, offering a high-quality automatic movement in a compact package, paired with a stunning natural stone dial, all for under $400. It features the same quirky, asymmetric chronograph subdials, but this time finished in a monochromatic gold-and-black, almost like a John Player Special colourway. Inside sits the hybrid meca-quartz movement, but this time it moves away from the specific coffee-brewing functionality and is more of a general chronograph timing complication. This may just be the sexiest Metric in the catalogue. In its own terms, the Metric Digital Blend Analog-LED is the world’s first hybrid watch to combine classic analogue timekeeping with a digital LED espresso timer. It features a 30-second countdown and a playful percolating coffee cup animation on the large, retro-style LED screen, against a classic analogue handset up top. It’s deliciously retro, with a dynamic design housed in the classic Metric case, but this time slightly upsized to 37.5mm to accommodate the additional display. It’s powered by a movement with an analogue-digital module, and still offers 50 metres of water resistance for that ideal everyday practicality. Once again, it features the classic Metric integrated styling with a 36mm stainless steel case, but this time it has a cleaner, slightly more legible dial. The chapter ring still features that all-important Barista marker at the six o’clock region for timing coffee shots, but again, it’s more subtle on this model. Powering the watch is the Seiko VK68 meca-quartz chronograph, with sturdy-clicking chronograph pushers and ultra-reliable timing. The Metric Bloom shows the brand has a more sophisticated side, without losing any of that all-important design language.
