As revealed by Fox Sports Australia this week, Tszyu\u2019s promoters No Limit are now close to finalising a deal<\/a> to bring Lara Down Under before Christmas.<\/p>\n Given Tszyu has previously held the WBO super welterweight crown, a win over Lara would see \u2018The Phoenix\u2019 become a two-division world champion.<\/p>\n Speaking from Thailand on Wednesday, where he is already in training, Tszyu said he wanted the Lara fight over Charlo, declaring: \u201cI\u2019d rather fight for a world title\u201d.<\/p>\n The Aussie added it was timely facing Lara, a southpaw, given he was fresh off an emphatic win over American superstar Errol Spence Jnr \u2013 who is himself a leftie.<\/p>\n Tim Tszyu and Erislandry LaraSource: FOX SPORTS<\/p>\n Speaking earlier this week, No Limit boss George Rose confirmed talks with Team Lara were nearing the final stages, with both camps negotiating for an Australian headliner sometime before Christmas.<\/p>\n The announcement means both Tszyu boys could be contesting the biggest fights of their careers just days apart, with No Limit also in talks for 28-year-old Nikita to make his US debut in Las Vegas this December.<\/p>\n While Tim Tszyu took aim at Charlo via social media last weekend, Rose has now officially confirmed Lara as next man up, saying: \u201cWe\u2019ve had great discussions with Lara\u2019s team, and I feel like something is close to being announced\u201d.<\/p>\n Asked by Fox Sports Australia about the Rose quotes during a media Zoom call from Thailand on Wednesday, Tszyu immediately doubled down.<\/p>\n \u201cTo become a two-division world champion, that\u2019s what I\u2019m chasing,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd against a guy named Lara.\u201d<\/p>\n While Rose politely declined to reveal further details, Tszyu also confirmed whispers that an Australian headliner in December is now the most likely scenario.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, yeah,\u201d he grinned. \u201cThe boys at No Limit are really tight with PBC [who promote Lara]. So we\u2019re able to make these fights happen and bring them over to Australia. That\u2019s what we\u2019re hoping for.\u201d<\/p>\n Pushed on his decision to choose the Lara fight over Charlo, Tszyu said he was driven by the desire to ink his own name among those handful of Australians to have won gold in multiple divisions \u2013 including Jeff Fenech, Liam Paro, Danny Green and Anthony Mundine.<\/p>\n When it comes to the four major boxing organisations however, only Fenech and Paro have won multiple belts.<\/p>\n \u201cSo it\u2019s the legacy,\u201d Tszyu explained. \u201cWe\u2019ve had a lot of different world champions here in Australia, but to win in different weight divisions, not many have done that.<\/p>\n \u201cLiam Paro was the second person and now I\u2019m attempting to be the third. So it would be a real legacy defining moment in my life. That\u2019s why I\u2019m chasing it.\u201d<\/p>\n Thoughts on Lara then, who at 43 is the world\u2019s oldest reigning world champion?<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been watching him for years and years,\u201d Tszyu continued. \u201cAnd stylistically, he\u2019s very hard to beat. He moves around, just a very good boxer \u2026 it\u2019s an intriguing match up.\u201d<\/p>\n Tszyu added however that he was advantaged by coming straight off a camp against Spence.<\/p>\n \u201cGoing back to back with two southpaw preps,\u201d he said, \u201cthat plays a big part.\u201d<\/p>\n The Sydneysider also said he has no problem fighting again before the year is out. <\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve had a crazy run,\u201d he grinned. \u201cAnd I\u2019m always eager to punch on and fight. If it\u2019s this year, next year, it doesn\u2019t bother me.\u201d<\/p>\n Tszyu v Mahoney ends in DRAW | 03:55<\/p>\n Elsewhere, Tszyu also explained his hilarious Instagram post last weekend taking a dig at Charlo, which included the Australian mocked up as King Jaffe Joffer from Hollywood classic, Coming To America. <\/p>\n Surprisingly, Tszyu said the image has sat in his Iphone for almost four years.<\/p>\n \u201cYou know what, that picture I posted, I actually had to find it,\u201d he grinned. \u201cI made it just before we were supposed to fight [in 2023].<\/p>\n \u201cThen he pulled out and I thought \u2018ah, damn, I couldn\u2019t put it up\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cSo I\u2019ve been waiting for a moment to put that one up. And of course I\u2019m still chasing Charlo.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s unfinished business.<\/p>\n \u201cFor years and years that fight has been spoken about. So that fight needs to be made and I\u2019m welcoming it.\u201d<\/p>\n Told he had fought a staggering eight times since the American\u2019s last appearance, a brutal 2023 loss against Canelo Alvarez, Tszyu grinned: \u201cThere you go \u2026 vacation\u201d.<\/p>\n Think Charlo fights this year?<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not sure,\u201d he shrugged. \u201cThe things is, the [middleweight] division now is hot.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are names like Xander Zayas, Charlo, Lara, Conor Benn is moving up, potentially even Ryan Garcia, who knows? There are so many names out there.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are some big fights to be made.\u201d<\/p>\n Tszyu also suggested he was still interested in a fight with Thurman.<\/p>\n \u201cThat would be a good name as well,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I welcome every challenge. Especially against guys that have been there [at the top], that are credible.\u201d<\/p>\n Pushed on a potential collaboration with Benn, who is with Zuffa Boxing, he continued: \u201cI wouldn\u2019t be willing to collaborate on the world titles, but I\u2019d be willing to have a fight with one of their fighters, of course.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re in this for a short period of time.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I\u2019ve spoken with No Limit about if the opportunity arises, of course we\u2019ll take it.
