Credit: Grant Cohn\/IG<\/p>\nNFL reporter Grant Cohn has been on an Aussie culture quest since arriving Down Under to cover Friday\u2019s blockbuster NFL game at the MCG, and selected one of the nation\u2019s most polarising delicacies as the subject of his latest food diary entry.<\/p>\n
Cohn arrived just hours before the Carlton vs Geelong elimination final last Friday, and has since given his take on footy stars, as well as such local culinary favourites as coffee, kebabs, and fish and chips.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, the vocal journo decided to offer his \u201chonest assessment of Vegemite\u201d in a clip shared to Instagram.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been putting this one off because I figured if it was really, really good, we\u2019d have it in America,\u201d he began.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo the fact that we don\u2019t means it\u2019s probably an acquired taste.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cohn had earlier advised his legion of online fans that he would be taste-testing the controversial spread, and said he had since been inundated with messages from Aussies warning him to go heavy on the butter, and light on the Vegemite.<\/p>\n
Displaying a piece of toast with a reasonable serving of the black gold, the American took an anxious bite.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is pungent,\u201d he said upon first taste, \u201cit\u2019s definitely not Nutella.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cohn quickly took a second bite as he attempted to identify the yeast extract\u2019s unique flavour profile.<\/p>\n
Following positive reviews of Melbourne coffee, battered shark, and an \u201cincredible\u201d kebab, fans should have expected a similarly positive reaction from the California native.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s good! Okay, it reminds me of like Bullion, or chicken stock, or MSG,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of people think MSG is taboo, don\u2019t want it in their food. I love MSG, I can\u2019t get enough! That\u2019s the flavour.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is great, we should have this in America.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cohn said he enjoyed the \u201csavouriness,\u201d and felt the product complemented the \u201ctoast and butter experience\u201d.<\/p>\n
The outspoken reporter said he would recommend Vegemite to other Americans he felt would enjoy it, should they be travelling to Australia.<\/p>\n
Impressed by the quality of fast food he has tried while on our shores, Cohn recently described a seafood banquet as \u201cby far the best fish and chips I\u2019ve ever had\u201d.<\/p>\n
On another occasion, he purchased a lamb and chicken kebab with \u201cspecial\u201d sauce that elicited perhaps his most overwhelming reaction.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe range of emotions I\u2019ve experienced eating this . . . I went from euphoria to utter depression that I can\u2019t ever have this again,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
