Liars<\/a>\u2019 Angus Andrew has announced his first album in five years, A Ban on Plastic Bag Bans<\/a>. Inspired by a move to Kalamazoo, Michigan and titled after an actual law on the state\u2019s books, the record is out March 5, 2027 via Mute<\/a>. Below, watch the music video for lead single \u201cIce Pick, Kalamazoo<\/a>,\u201d which Andrew shot on 3D camera at the city\u2019s No Kings rally.<\/p>\n

After a move to Kalamazoo with his wife and daughter, Andrew experienced a toxic air crisis originating from a local packaging factory. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t just the environment that was polluted,\u201d Andrew said in press materials, \u201cit was also my mind.\u201d Of A Ban on Plastic Bag Bans, he explained, \u201cIt\u2019s got more to do with the perception of things than modern pollution\u2014how these things that can be a constant in your life become sort of ingrained and invisible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since the release of the last Liars LP, 2021\u2019s The Apple Drop<\/a>, Andrew started a label, No Gold<\/a>, and an experimental festival series called Essential Tremors<\/a>. He\u2019s got a run of UK and European shows lined up for October, including a front-to-back performance of 2006\u2019s Drum\u2019s Not Dead<\/a> at Poland\u2019s Unsound Festival to mark that record\u2019s 20th anniversary.<\/p>\n
