{"id":886458,"date":"2026-09-10T03:54:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T03:54:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/886458\/"},"modified":"2026-09-10T03:54:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T03:54:12","slug":"f1-debuts-at-madring-for-spanish-grand-prix-race-start-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/886458\/","title":{"rendered":"F1 debuts at Madring for Spanish Grand Prix, race start time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Formula 1 debuts a new circuit to its calendar, and despite no grand prix raced yet, the Madring already boasts a corner that is poised to become an iconic scene in motorsport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The Spanish Grand Prix has moved from Barcelona to the nation&#8217;s capital, Madrid, with the brand-new Madring contracted to host the event until 2035.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-09-09\/f1-kimi-antonelli-compared-to-michael-schumacher\/107130402\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Schumacher comparisons made as Antonelli continues historic F1 season<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Kimi Antonelli&#8217;s win from 19th on the grid in Monza was epic, and the way his rivals raced with him has drawn comparisons with Ferrari legend Michael Schumacher.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The track uses a combination of public roads and private land and will at times reflect a street circuit, and other times a permanent race track.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">But the defining feature of this 22-corner circuit is turn 12: La Monumental.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Turn 12 is a long, banked hairpin that promises to be unlike anything in F1 currently.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The 270-degree curve will have banking up to 13.5 degrees, not as dramatic as the 18-degrees of banking at Zandvoort, but this corner will be taken at much higher speed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Williams driver Carlos Sainz drove around the circuit earlier this year in a Ford Mustang GT, and said he expects F1 cars to be flying around La Monumental.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;My feeling is the corner is going to be flat out the whole way, and it&#8217;s going to create an overtaking opportunity into the next tight left,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;The banking will allow you to maybe position the car higher up or lower down if you want to get clean air to follow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;But if it&#8217;s easy flat, then it will also be a corner where if you stay tight, you will produce quite a bit of slipstream, like you see in Zandvoort.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli enters this weekend with a 66-point lead in the drivers&#8217;
