There are brilliant chefs and restaurants that genuinely understand dietary requirements, take cross-contamination seriously and, most importantly, serve food that you’d actually be excited to eat — not just the obligatory gluten-free option tagged onto the end of the menu.

So, here’s my round-up of some of the best spots around Dublin for a proper gluten-free feed, whether you’re after brunch, Asian food, Mexican, pizza, a fancy dinner or just somewhere you can eat without the stress.

Some of these options are not fully dedicated gluten-free kitchens, so be sure to make it known to staff when ordering anything from the menu.

Consider this your coeliac-friendly Dublin hit list.

1. Kodiak

If you’re after a buzzing night with delicious cocktails and pizza – minus the gluten, Kodiak in Rathmines is one to have on your radar. Their pizzas can be made gluten-free, so coeliacs don’t have to sit sadly on the sidelines while everyone else tucks into a Neapolitan-style pie.

The menu has everything from potato and pancetta to mortadella and pistachio — it’s also dog-friendly making it a great spot for a casual night out with friends.

2. Glas

Glas is Ireland’s first fully gluten-free fine dining restaurant, meaning the entire menu is yours to choose from. The kitchen doesn’t handle wheat, barley or rye, and the food is anything but an afterthought, with creative vegetarian and vegan dishes built around seasonal Irish produce. From beautifully put-together mains to very tempting desserts, this is proof that gluten-free dining can still be exciting.

3. Two Pups

Two Pups is one for the brunch lovers. This buzzy little spot on Francis Street does a brilliant breakfast and lunch menu, with plenty of dishes that can be made gluten-free — think Turkish eggs, shakshuka, eggs and avo and their house-made granola. And, importantly for coeliacs, they have great options available and take great care in serving these dishes. Add very good coffee and a seriously tempting selection of baked treats into the mix and you’ve got yourself a solid brunch.

4. Tang

Tang has a Middle Eastern-inspired menu packed with colourful, flavour-heavy salads, hummus, roast veg and plenty of brunch options, with gluten-free bread available on request. There are also plenty of naturally gluten-free dishes to choose from. It’s bright, buzzy and perfect for a casual lunch or weekend brunch when you want something healthy and properly delicious.

5. The Fumbally

The Fumbally is a Dublin institution for a reason, and thankfully, coeliacs don’t have to miss out. This laid-back Liberties café is all about good, unfussy food, with a menu that changes with the seasons and plenty of naturally gluten-free options, alongside gluten-free bread when you need it.

Think colourful salads, eggs, fermented things, big flavours and very good coffee. They also sell gluten-free loaves in their grocer on the left-hand side of the cafe.

6. One Society

One Society is a very good shout when the craving for pizza or pasta hits — two things that can be surprisingly hard to come by when you’re coeliac. They offer gluten-free pizza bases and pasta, so you can tuck into everything from a Margherita or Diavola to a bowl of Arrabbiata or Amatriciana.

They also do brunch, with gluten-free options available, making this a handy all-rounder whether you’re after a lazy weekend breakfast or a proper Italian feed.

7. Mak at D6

If you’re craving Chinese, Mak is one to know about. The Ranelagh favourite has become something of a Dublin institution for its dedicated coeliac menu, with an impressively long list of dishes including gluten-free salt and pepper prawns, calamari, crispy chicken, Singapore noodles and plenty of its signature sauces and mains.

8. Masa

Mexican cuisine is super handy when it comes to gluten-free eating, thanks to a focus on corn tacos, salsas, rice and beans. If you’re craving tacos, Masa is a favourite of mine for a quick inner-city meal. Located on Drury Street, here you’ll find punchy tacos, guacamole, salsa, chips and Mexican bravas to get stuck into, so you can build yourself a decent spread with varied flavour.

9. Yamamori

Asian food is also a great one for coeliacs. Yamamori has a generous gluten-free selection across its menu, from sushi and sashimi to bento boxes, fried rice, edamame and plenty of sides, plus they have gluten-free teriyaki and soy sauce available.

With a few Dublin locations and a reliable atmosphere, it’s a great option when you want an Asian feed with plenty of choice.

10. Cookie Boy

Cookie Boy is a tiny Stephen Street spot famous for its huge, gooey Korean-style cookies, with flavours that are considerably more exciting than your average chocolate chip. They do a gluten-free cookie on certain days, so keep an eye on their socials or check ahead before making the pilgrimage, and get in early as they sell out quickly.

11. Vice

Finding a place that does a genuinely good gluten-free pizza base feels like winning the lottery. Vice is my absolute favourite pizza joint in Dublin, and luckily they have gluten-free bases available for a selection of their pizzas. They have a deadly menu, with lots of variation in flavour, and of course the option to personalise or add your own toppings.

They have a couple of branches, but my go-to is the one in Phibsborough, which is great for casual walk-ins.

12. Twist Bakery

For the coeliacs with a sweet tooth, Twist Bakery needs to be on your radar. This little Temple Bar bakery is all about freshly baked pastries, cakes and sweet treats, with gluten-free options in the mix. The selection changes, so there’s always a bit of a lucky-dip element to what’s available, but it’s a great spot to grab a coffee and something sweet when you’re in town.

13. Parrilla

Parrilla is a chic and modern Mexican restaurant in Ranelagh with plenty of gluten-free options across the menu. From tacos, tostadas, nachos and a full margarita menu, you’ll have no shortage of flavour. The staff are knowledgeable and accommodating to coeliacs, so you can sit back and enjoy every bite without stressing about having a sore tummy afterwards.

14. BuJo Burger Joint

Sometimes you just want a bloody burger, and being coeliac shouldn’t get in the way of that. BuJo is a real favourite of mine, with gluten-free buns available and their fresh fries cooked in dedicated fryers.

The beef is Irish, grass-fed and chargrilled to order, and there are plenty of toppings and sauces to build your burger exactly how you like it. With locations in Sandymount, Terenure, and a brand new location in Temple Bar that I really recommend checking out, it’s a solid option when the craving for a big, messy burger hits.

15. Póg

If you’re coeliac and thought your days of going out for a big, fluffy stack of pancakes were behind you, get yourself to Póg. Their gluten-free pancakes are available across the menu, with plenty of sweet and savoury toppings to choose from, and they’re honestly the kind of pancakes you’d order even if you weren’t avoiding gluten.

Calling all coeliacs — this list is long overdue.
