The positive account of their UK return comes as tensions continue over Uganda\u2019s decision to withdraw from the 2027 Invictus Games.<\/p>\n
Allies of Prince Harry and Meghan have claimed Uganda\u2019s decision was directly linked to a \u201cblunt\u201d letter from King Charles which reaffirmed that the Sussexes are private citizens and not working royals.<\/p>\n
The Sussexes were understood to be shocked after the King\u2019s released \u201cofficial guidance\u201d on their royal position on Monday night, saying \u201cno change\u201d would be made and that any reference to the pair as His and Her Royal Highness \u201cremain in abeyance and are not used\u201d.<\/p>\n
They have also argued the fallout will ultimately hurt the Ugandan competitors ho had been expected to take part in the international sporting event.<\/p>\n
An insider claimed Uganda had made clear that its withdrawal followed what it viewed as guidance from the Lord Chamberlain.<\/p>\n
The controversy was turned up a notch when Ugandan General Muhoozi Kainerugaba said his country would not participate in the event without approval from King Charles. He also criticised what he called the \u201cHarry-Meghan nonsense.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Ugandan military official, who is also the son of the country\u2019s president, issued a statement less than two days after a missive issued by Lord Chamberlain was publicly released to clarify that Prince Harry and Meghan were not to be treated as working members of the royal family.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn order not to be construed as being opposed to His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom, whom we deeply revere, Uganda hereby withdraws from the Invictus Games,\u201d Mr Kainerugaba said on X.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe shall not participate in anything that does not have His Majesty\u2019s approval.\u201d<\/p>\n
Prince Harry and Meghan left the UK for the US in 2020 after stepping back from royal duties in a move that was widely dubbed \u201cMegxit\u201d.<\/p>\n
