{"id":888246,"date":"2026-09-11T14:50:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-11T14:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/888246\/"},"modified":"2026-09-11T14:50:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T14:50:09","slug":"court-orders-epfo-to-pay-6-interest-for-35-day-delay-in-settling-claim-heres-how-to-check-status-file-grievances","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/888246\/","title":{"rendered":"Court orders EPFO to pay 6% interest for 35-day delay in settling claim \u2014 Here&#8217;s how to check status, file grievances"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A consumer court last week ordered the Employees&#8217; Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), to pay 6% interest as compensation to a retired employee for a 35-day delay in settling his PF claim of more than  \u20b914 lakh, PTI reported.<\/p>\n<p>The Mumbai Suburban District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission held the retirement fund savings body guilty of service deficiency for its delay in settling the provident fund claim within the 20-day window, as mandated by the <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/epf-scheme-2026-got-married-your-past-pf-nomination-is-now-invalid-key-faqs-answered-11785247048773.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"EPF Scheme\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">EPF Scheme<\/a>, 1952, it added.<\/p>\n<p>EPFO penalised for settlement delay: What happened?<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, the complainant is a former employee of Fleet Maritime Services (India) who submitted a complete PF claim on 19 October 2016. However, the <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/epf-advance-rules-withdrawals-for-education-illness-and-housing-are-now-easier-says-epfo-11788947567242.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"EPFO\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">EPFO <\/a>failed to settle the claim within the prescribed period.<\/p>\n<p>In its argument, the organisation denied any delay on its part. It said the claimant did not submit a joint declaration along with the original claim and it was thus returned on 7 November 2016, as per the PTI report.
