\u201cWeapons\u201d and \u201cBarbarian\u201d filmmaker Zach Cregger has revealed that his upcoming \u201cResident Evil\u201d film made a major change after a test screening \u2013 namely pulling almost all of the jokes.<\/p>\n

Whereas his previous films were able to strike a balance between horror and elements of comedy, test screenings for this adaptation of the game franchise revealed the ratio was initially too lopsided.<\/p>\n

Speaking with THR<\/a> about the film\u2019s testing process, he says he pulled out every single joke in the film that he thought didn\u2019t work and the overall movie majorly improved as a result:<\/p>\n

\u201cI learned that people really liked the movie, but they thought it was too funny. So over the course of my testing, I stripped out as much of the jokes as possible.<\/p>\n

I then found that not only did the audience enjoy the movie more, but I also liked the movie a lot more. A little bit of humor goes a long way in a horror movie, and there\u2019s not a single joke I took out of this movie that I miss.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cregger has been on the receiving end of criticism over his use of artistic license in the movie and lack of faithfulness to a specific entry, the director saying he underestimated how much the fanbase wants to see legacy characters like Leon S. Kennedy properly adapted to the screen.<\/p>\n

He also offered a brief update on the DC script he wrote years ago called \u201cHenchman,\u201d confirming there\u2019s no movement on it: \u201cBelieve me, I love Henchman. My love of that script persists, but there\u2019s been no action.\u201d<\/p>\n
