Celebrity nutritionist Munmun Ganeriwal explains how strength training, proper nutrition and recovery can help women build a stronger body without copying an actor’s demanding routine. Action heroes make intense physical training look effortless. But behind every powerful punch, sprint and stunt lies a carefully planned routine involving strength, food and recovery. For everyday women, the goal need not be to perform movie stunts. It can be as simple as feeling stronger while managing household responsibilities, working long hours, or enjoying an active life.Celebrity nutritionist and author Munmun Ganeriwal, who has been preparing Taapsee Pannu for the high-intensity action sequences in Gandhari, explains why women can train hard without copying an actor’s entire routine. The key is to build a body that supports real-life demands, rather than chasing an action-hero image.

Strength training is for everyday life, too

Ganeriwal believes that action-film training offers useful lessons for women outside the film industry. Squats, lunges, pushes, pulls, loaded carries and core exercises can help build the strength needed for daily activities.Carrying shopping bags, climbing stairs, lifting a child or standing through a long workday may not look like action scenes, but they still require physical ability. A well-planned strength programme can make these tasks feel more manageable. The World Health Organization recommends muscle-strengthening activities involving major muscle groups on at least two days each week. Its physical activity guidelines provide a useful starting point for adults.

The right workout depends on the life being lived

A homemaker, an office professional and an actor preparing for a demanding shoot may have very different fitness needs. Ganeriwal says the first question should be what a woman wants her fitness to help her do.Someone who wants more energy for work and family responsibilities may benefit from moderate, consistent training. Another woman may want to improve running speed, build muscle or prepare for a physically demanding sport. These goals call for different training plans. Copying an actor’s workout without considering fitness level, schedule and recovery needs can create unnecessary strain.

Food and recovery matter as much as exercise

Preparing for action sequences can involve repeating physically demanding movements, sometimes with limited time between takes. Ganeriwal explains that nutrition, sleep and recovery were treated as important parts of Taapsee’s preparation.Food provides energy for training and nutrients that support the body’s repair processes. Adequate sleep also helps the body recover from physical stress.Supplements are not automatically necessary. A balanced diet and an individual’s nutritional needs should guide any decision about supplementation.

Train hard, but allow the body to adapt

More exercise is not always better exercise. A demanding routine requires time for the body to recover, especially when it includes heavy lifting, intense conditioning or repeated high-impact movements.Beginners can start with manageable loads and gradually increase the challenge. Rest days, adequate food and sufficient sleep help make that progress sustainable.Ganeriwal also points out that Taapsee’s training intensity changes after an action-heavy shoot. There is no reason for an everyday woman to maintain peak action-role conditioning throughout the year.Action-hero preparation can inspire women to become stronger, but fitness should serve life rather than take it over. A useful routine should leave enough energy for work, relationships, rest and the activities that bring enjoyment. For everyday women, becoming stronger does not require looking like a film star. It means building the confidence and physical capacity to handle life’s demands with greater ease.Medical experts consultedThis article includes expert inputs shared with TOI Health by:Munmun Ganeriwal, celebrity nutritionist and author.Inputs were used to explain how everyday women can train like action heroes by focusing on strength, proper nutrition, conditioning and recovery, without pushing the body beyond what daily life requires.

Can everyday women train like action heroes?
