The event takes place inside Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona. Our main event tonight is Jean Silva vs. Jose Delgado in the Featherweight division.

Our main event pits Silva versus Delgado, but that’s not what UFC had initially booked for this annual event. Delgado, a native of Arizona, comes in to replace Yair Rodriguez (more on that here). Delgado comes into this one after close wins over Austin Bashi and Andre Fili. Silva, meanwhile, is coming off a close-ish win over Arnold Allen. That’s his only fight since getting finished by Diego Lopes in last year’s Noche UFC event (re-live that here).

This is a huge opportunity for Delgado to catapult himself up the Featherweight rankings, while a massive risk for Silva. And a win here, over his short-notice opponent, won’t get him that much in return.

The co-main event has former Flyweight champion, Brandon Moreno, taking on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 33 winner, Joseph Morales. That really tells you how far Moreno has fallen in the division’s title picture. As with Delgado, Morales has a huge chance to make himself a name in the division here.

McMillen has been the star of fight week, as far as our traffic numbers go anyway (here’s why). The training partner of Sean O’Malley has generated significant attention for himself with his comments (like this) leading up to this one. Delgado throws feints, but Silva doesn’t react to anything. He just stalks. Delgado lands an overhand and puts Silva down! He tries to get on top, but Silva stands and they end up on the fence. They separate and Silva goes to a more traditional stance. Silva doges some punches and gets a bodylock. They separate. Delgado catches Silva again, but he responds with a good counter.

Round 2: They trade to start the round and Delgado lands the most shots. Silva goes for a spinning elbow and hits mostly shoulder. Silva misses on that elbow again. He’s trying to make a meme more than win a fight, it seems. Silva lands a big hook in an exchange and that looks like the first thing he’s thrown that has hurt Delgado. He turns that into a takedown. Delgado manages to keep Silva away with upkicks. He’s then able to get up. Things get wild at the end of the round. Silva takes this one for me.

Round 3: Silva chases Delgado and lands a good right hand. Then another. Delgado is having to fight with his back close to the cage. Delgado throws a combo, but Silva covers up well. Silva gets Delgado close to the cage again and this time puts him down with a one-two. Silva goes to the ground and Delgado scrambles. Silva gets his back, though, and puts in a tight squeeze. Delgado taps. Weird beginning to this fight, but Silva gets it done in the end.

Official decision: Jean Silva def. Jose Delgado by submission (rear naked choke), round 3 (2:15)

Brandon Moreno vs. Joseph Morales

Round 1: Moreno lands early, targeting the body. Morales responds with a jab and low kick combo. Moreno throws a combo at the body and almost eats a knee. Morales lands some good punches and glances a head kick. Moreno fires back, but Morales gets the takedown. Moreno scrambles up to his feet. They trade shots and Moreno lands a nice leg kick. Morales then lands a good combo, no one has blinked yet here. It’s a very close round, but I think Moreno edged it.

Round 2: Both men are very active to start the round, both are landing but no one is showing any damage. Morales lands a side kick to the groin and that causes a pause in the action. More good exchanges after we restart. Morales lands a nice spinning back fist. He’s starting to get the better of these exchanges. Morales lands a nice one two that has Moreno leaning back. He then comes inside and lands an uppercut. Moreno swings for the fences, sensing some urgency. He’s missing badly, though. He goes for rolling thunder, which looks more sad than cool.

Round 3: Morales meets Moreno in the middle, but level changes and looks for a takedown. Moreno wriggles around him and goes for his neck. That forces Morales to turtle up and then go back to his feet. Moreno tries to push the pace, but Morales is doing well at evading and sniping away with shots. They clinch and Morales tries to get a bodylock, but Moreno muscles him down and gets on top. Morales is busy off his back, but Moreno does enough to keep the position. Morales takes the last round for me.

Official decision: Brandon Moreno def. Joseph Morales by split decision (28-29, 30-27, 30-27)

Tommy McMillen vs. Marwan Rahiki

Round 1: McMillen misses on a big punch, but gets a body lock. He drags Rahiki down, but they both get up quickly. McMillen swings his big overhand, but eats a straight from Rahiki. McMillen keeps reaching with his power shots and one lands hard on Rahiki. McMillen keeps swinging and head hunting. Rahiki goes to the body with his kicks. Rahiki has a big welt under his right eye. McMillen connects with a big right, Rahiki lands counters, but McMillen has a much better poker face. McMillen gets in Rahiki’s face after the bell.

Round 2: Rahiki lands a good body kick early on. McMillen drops his hands to protect that area. McMillen tries to jump into a front choke, but Rahiki drops and turns out of trouble. They fight in the center and Rahiki lands a nice combo, finishing to the body. McMillen then lands a big overhand that momentarily stuns Rahiki. McMillen takes a big breath. Rahiki drops McMillen with a short hook. McMillen pops up, but he’s wobbly. They throw like crazy and Rahiki tags McMillen a few more times. McMillen manages to stay on his feet, though. Rahiki lands a hard knee to the body. Both men are tired now. McMillen sways forwards with looping shots. Rahiki looks more tired right now. McMillen tags him, but Rahiki then lands a counter. McMillen manages to drag Rahiki down with 30 seconds left. He goes for a choke, but Rahiki spins out of it. McMillen goes for a D’arce, but Rahiki squeezes out of it. They square off again after the bell.

Round 3: Rahiki misses on a spinning elbow, but then lands a beautiful judo throw. McMillen gets to his feet and then gets behind Rahiki. He drags him down. Rahiki rolls and gets to his feet. McMillen drops Rahiki with one of his overhand rights. He gets on top and gets into side control. He goes for a D’arce again. Rahiki keeps turning and gets out of it. They end up stuck in north-south. Rahiki is exhausted and he’s trying to just survive. McMillen puts the D’arce on again, but Rahiki gets out of it. Rahiki gets to his feet with two minutes left. They swing at each other and Rahiki is totally gassed. McMillen drags him down again and lands punches to the side of his head. McMillen flips off Rahiki’s corner and then lands a knee to the body. Rahiki gets up and they exchange against the fence.

Official decision: Tommy McMillen def. Marwan Rahiki by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-27)

Alexa Grasso vs. Manon Fiorot

Round 1: Grasso landed a combo early that got the crowd roaring. Fiorot was forced to back up after that. Grasso rumbled in with another combo. Fiorot tried to keep her back with punches, but Grasso kept coming forwards and hurt her with a left hook. Fiorot was just trying to wake up and get in the fight after that. She landed a good shot off her back foot, but Grasso just kept coming at her and landing punches. Grasso slowed down a little and Fiorot seemed to grow in confidence. But when Fiorot stepped forwards she was dropped by a big punch from Grasso. Grasso then followed her to the ground and landed some good ground and pound.

Round 2: Fiorot threw lots of side kicks to keep Grasso at range. But Grasso was able to get past that and land a good combo early. Grasso slowed down a bit and Fiorot was able to find more success with her kicks and countering. Grasso was still dangerous, though, and landed the bigger shots in the exchanges. At the end of the round Grasso trapped Fiorot on the fence and landed a big combo, again.

Round 3: The pace slowed down in the third. That favored Fiorot, who was getting more time and space to throw her kicks. Grasso was cut around her eye in the second round and that was starting to bother her a little in the third. With Grasso not crashing through range much, Fiorot was able to pick her shots. She needed a KO shot, but she just couldn’t find it.

Official decision: Alexa Grasso def. Manon Fiorot by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Waldo Cortes-Acosta vs. Curtis Blaydes

Round 1: Blaydes got a bodylock right off the bat, but Cortes-Acosta was able to prevent himself getting taken down against the fence. On the feet Cortes-Acosta was able to score with plenty of jabs. With a minute left, though, Blaydes ducked his head down and got a pick takedown, landing in side position. Given how little happened, that takedown might just give the round for Blaydes.

Round 2: Blaydes got on Cortes-Acosta early in this round and used his weight to bring him down and pin him against the bottom of the fence. Cortes-Acosta worked to his feet, but it took some time and you could see he was getting tired from having to do that. Cortes-Acosta threw some big punches on the feet, but his lack of energy meant there wasn’t much zip on them. I’ll give the round to Cortes-Acosta, but hardly anything happened.

Round 3: Another low action round with Blaydes spending time hanging on Cortes-Acosta back and Cortes-Acosta being too gassed to throw anything impressive on the feet. This was a classic dud of a Heavyweight fight. I guess Blaydes deserved the third…

Official decision: Curtis Blaydes def. Waldo Cortes-Acosta by unanimous decision (29-29, 29-28, 29-28)

Dan Ige vs. David Martinez

Round 1: Both men showed a lot of speed in this round, which meant both were able to dart in and out without getting hit. They also weren’t able to land much. Martinez landed the best shots; calf kicks. Those turned Ige’s left leg pink. That also opened up a chance for Martinez to land the best punch of the round, too.

Round 2: The damage to Ige’s leg meant he was now slower than Martinez. Martinez used that to his advantage, getting inside and doing good body work, while also continuing to rip low kicks. Ige found it very hard to get through that offense. Martinez did a few cartwheels at the end of the round to fire up the crowd (who were getting a little antsy).

Round 3: Ige came out aggressive in the third (he had to). But he walked into a Martinez punch that put him down to a knee. Ige brushed that off, but he couldn’t get anything going due to the damage on the leg and how he had to switch stances to try and protect it from further chances. Martinez continued to chip away, but he wasn’t very aggressive. That lead to boos in the crowd. Solid win for him, but not exactly exciting.

Official decision: David Martinez def. Dan Ige by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Edgar Chairez vs. Tim Elliott: Chairez rocked Elliott immediately in this fight, but might have been too casual afterwards. Elliott then rocked him a few minutes later and might have stolen the round. Elliott likely got the second round, too, spending a decent amount of time bloodying him up from top position. Chairez was able to damage Elliott’s left leg, though. Elliott was seriously hobbled in the third. He was able to tough that out, though, and get Chairez down again.

Official decision: Tim Elliott def. Edgar Chairez by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Iganacio Bahamondes vs. Muslim Salikhov: We didn’t get the expected early finish in this one. And a big part of that is thanks to Salikhov. Despite being 42, he was able to spot most the danger coming from Bahamondes. He got tagged a lot, but didn’t give up a fight ending blow. Bahamondes was the clear winner and he looked very smooth throughout, but the lack of a finish will count against him here. Bahamondes getting thrown down a bunch, off kick attempts, also wasn’t a good look.

Official decision: Igancio Bahamondes def. Muslim Salikhov by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Yousri Belgaroui vs. Djorden Santos: Belgaroui continues to look like the real deal. He was a little tepid to start this one, though, and seemed to be showing a surprising amount of respect for Santos’ game. He got over that, though, and started landing power shots that had Santos wobbling all over the place. After he saw Santos was hurt he closed in and put him away with some big shots towards the fence.

Official decision: Yousri Belgaroui def. Djorden Santos by TKO (punches), round 1 (4:25)

Drakkar Klose vs. Tommy Gantt: Gantt just wore Klose out. He’s a stud athlete and it showed. He used his big frame and his motor to drag around and hang on Klose for the whole fight. The end came when Gantt locked up an unorthodox triangle position and forced a submission. He then got in Klose’s face and danced around. Good win, but not a great look at the end there.

Official decision: Tommy Gantt def. Drakkar Klose by submission (triangle choke), round 3 (2:31)

Rafa Garcia vs Rongzhu: This was a pretty even fight, but a main difference was Garcia sticking to the one-two and Rongzhu figuring it out how to fight around it, while stinging him with much creative and less telegraphed punches. Garcia put on more pressure at the end of the fight, but it wasn’t enough to get ahead on the scorecards.

Official decision: Rongzhu def. King ducked under and hit Rosas with the Rock Bottom (if you’re familiar with The Rock’s old finishing move). Rosas hit his head on the canvas and was out before King could follow up with punches.

Official decision: Sean King def. Aldrich tried to pour water on all that, but enough of Tarin’s boxing started getting through and by the end of the second Aldrich was starting to fade.

Official decision: Regina Tarin def.
