{"id":890559,"date":"2026-09-13T13:50:17","date_gmt":"2026-09-13T13:50:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/890559\/"},"modified":"2026-09-13T13:50:17","modified_gmt":"2026-09-13T13:50:17","slug":"f1-news-2026-spanish-grand-prix-lewis-hamilton-retires-max-verstappen-spray","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/890559\/","title":{"rendered":"F1 news 2026: Spanish Grand Prix; Lewis Hamilton retires; Max Verstappen spray"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/topic\/spanish-grand-prix-26d4\" class=\"sc-iRgEWu hHENWX\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Spanish Grand Prix<\/a> started with chaos after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/person\/lewis-hamilton-42q\" class=\"sc-iRgEWu hHENWX\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lewis Hamilton<\/a>\u2019s brakes failed early <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/sport\/motorsport\/live-scores\/spanish-grand-prix\/1205\" class=\"sc-iRgEWu hHENWX\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in Madrid<\/a>, forcing an early retirement. <\/p>\n<p>Hamilton started on the grid in fourth but moved into third at the start before pushing back to his original position during the early turns. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/a16d8b9bbe07bbd609778040dcb95eb9f8aff2e5.jpeg\"  width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"_0b53bae146db0b62 _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">Lewis Hamilton. \u00a0Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The Brit had pushed past Max Verstappen, who started in third, with Hamilton heard on the team radio saying the Dutchman needed to give a position back after going wide on one of the turns. <\/p>\n<p>But Verstappen fired back on the radio on the second lap.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLewis almost shunted into me, he was out of control,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I didn\u2019t move, he just shunted into me. I would\u2019ve been ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the same lap, Hamilton told his team to check his left rear because he\u2019d hit the wall. <\/p>\n<p>By the fourth lap, Verstappen was told to go back from second to fourth, letting Kimi Antonelli and Hamilton move ahead. <\/p>\n<p>He wasn\u2019t happy. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMate what the f&#8211;k are you guys talking about? He would have shunted it,\u201d he said on the team radio when told by his engineer to give his places back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike, what are you guys talking about?
