\n\tNicholas Weinstock<\/a>, executive producer of the Apple TV+ series \u201cSeverance,\u201d has boarded \u201cTongue<\/a>,\u201d an Indian fantasy-horror feature written and directed by Krishnarjun Bhattacharya and starring Sayani Gupta<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tWeinstock produces through his banner Invention Studios alongside Divya D\u2019Souza, with Gupta serving as the film\u2019s Indian producer. The film earned a spot in the South Asian Canadian Film Federation\u2019s Indo-Canadian Producers\u2019 Lab, and the Toronto Film Festival<\/a> will showcase it through its Indo-Canadian co-production market.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn \u201cTongue,\u201d two estranged sisters spend a single night locked inside their late grandmother\u2019s crumbling mansion, hunting for clues that lead them past monstrous creatures and lethal traps toward secrets the family buried long ago, all connected to a mysterious language called the Tongue. Gupta stars as one of the sisters.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI am enormously proud and excited about \u2018Tongue\u2019 and the chance to harness the talents of our fast-rising director Krishnarjun and the phenomenal Sayani,\u201d Weinstock said. \u201cIndia has yet to have its \u2018Parasite,\u2019 its \u2018Get Out,\u2019 its \u2018Backrooms,\u2019 as a breakout international horror hit, and this wildly original movie, some combination of all three, has the makings of a global smash.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWeinstock\u2019s other credits include \u201cThelma,\u201d the Nigerian film \u201cClarissa\u201d and the Netflix series \u201cIn the Dark,\u201d as well as the Apple TV+ series \u201cHigh Desert.\u201d Bhattacharya, a graduate of the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, is also a novelist and game designer; he wrote the \u201cTantric Trilogy\u201d and co-wrote the Indian horror series \u201cVakr,\u201d set for a Netflix release in 2026. Gupta produces through her own banner, Sayani Gupta Movies, whose credits include the short film \u201cAasmani\u201d and the indie feature \u201cWhere the Winds Blow.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGupta is also making her U.S. feature film debut at the TIFF market this year with \u201cArya,\u201d which completed filming in Duluth, Minnesota. Written and directed by Neil Tuli, the film centers on Arya Sinha, a strict-minded piano instructor at a top Indian conservatory who grudgingly accepts a posting in northern Minnesota meant to revive a failing school band program and boost her own career prospects back home. Adjusting to her new, unpredictable surroundings pushes Arya to loosen her grip and face insecurities she\u2019s kept buried. Gupta serves as an executive producer on the film, alongside a cast that includes Ross Butler, Mark Evan Jackson and Adi Roy.<\/p>\n
