The Sacramento Kings need to make big moves. Everyone around the NBA knows it. That means getting both Zach LaVine<\/a> and Domantas Sabonis gone, tasks that have proven to be difficult at best. That doesn’t mean the front office hasn’t been on their grind this offseason and making real changes.<\/p>\n

Every time the names LaVine and Sabonis come up in a conversation about the Kings, it’s always negative. Sure, neither player fits the roster anymore and their rather large contracts are preventing the team from digging into the rebuild. All of that is incredibly frustrating for Sactown fans.<\/p>\n

That being said, they’re both good players who have done their best to do right by the franchise. They can’t help that the previous front office brought them in to a chaotic situation with no idea of how to best use these guys. Regardless, moving on from them is a huge part of the Kings’ strategy.<\/p>\n

For LaVine, the Kings will likely wait out his contract and let him walk into free agency in 2027. Sabonis will get traded at some point<\/a>, but the front office won’t pull the trigger on a bad deal just to move him. In the meantime, Sacramento has acutally had a pretty productive 2026 offseason so far.<\/p>\n

And the Kings still have more to do in 2026…<\/p>\n

The 2026 NBA Draft was another big win<\/a> for the Kings. Perry picked up Darius Acuff Jr., Alex Karaban, and Emanuel Sharp. Acuff is key as he has the potential to be an All-Star caliber point guard for the Kings. Karaban and Sharp also could be clutch players for Sacramento, and anchors of the rebuild.<\/p>\n

Sacramento re-signed Precious Achiuwa, which was important given how well he did in 2025-2026. Some have even called it his breakout season. Unfortunately, the Kings weren’t able to keep Russell Westbrook who chose to retire after18 seasons. He was last seen balling on a yacht with CP3.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the Kings re-signed Daeqwon Plowden, signed Jonathan Mogbo and Adam Flagler to two-way contracts, and brought back Ben Simmons. The jury is still out on that last move. On top of that, they parted ways with several players, including DeMar DeRozan and Devin Carter.<\/p>\n

Keep in mind that Sacramento still has a main roster spot and a two-way contract to work with, so more additions are coming. The two most-needed changes still haven’t happened. But they will, and the Kings have continued the rebuild in the meantime, laying the foundations for future success.<\/p>\n
