reported<\/a> that De La Hoya was denied a credential, but as far as White knows, the Golden Boy Promotions boss was never expected to show and his organization had nothing to do with his absence.<\/p>\n\u201cI heard there\u2019s some rumblings,\u201d White said at Saturday\u2019s post-fight press conference. \u201cLet me explain something to you: I do not like De La Hoya and De La Hoya does not like me. I would never disrespect him and say, \u2018Oh, he shows up here and we treat him like shit.\u2019 I would call him on the phone and say, \u2018Hey, don\u2019t f*cking show up to this event because we\u2019re not going to treat you well.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cThat was not the case. Why he didn\u2019t show up, I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n
Garcia was also asked about De La Hoya\u2019s absence, but couldn\u2019t offer any more details.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought he was going to be here,\u201d Garcia said. \u201cThey told me that he had a seat and I actually invited him to walk out with me. I thought that was going to be iconic. Everyone was asking where he was and then just to have him walk out with me, it would have been special.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut it is what it is. It didn\u2019t happen. I\u2019m here just to do my job. I don\u2019t really try to think of that too much. Would it have been cool to see him there? Yeah.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ahead of Opetaia\u2019s fight, promoter Don King announced that Mikaelian\u2019s WBC title would not be on the line, adding an odd wrinkle that White and his team had to deal with.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll this stuff is a work in progress,\u201d White said. \u201cEverybody keeps saying to me, \u2018I thought you weren\u2019t working with the organizations,\u2019 and I\u2019m not going to be told what to do by anybody. I\u2019m not going to be told how to run my business by anybody, but a lot of these kids grew up or are just at a level where they could fight for some of these belts and if these guys are willing to work with us, we\u2019ll figure out how to make it happen. We want to do right by the fighters, so we\u2019ll see how it all plays out.<\/p>\n
