I called Kyle Walker out a few years ago when he went down to a headbutt [which Man Utd striker Rasmus Hojlund was sent off for in December 2024].

“I don’t think that’s a red card for Foden, I really don’t.”

Manchester City’s English midfielder #47 Phil Foden (C) reacts to Referee Michael Oliver (L) after being shown a red card during the English Premier League football match between Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford on September 13, 2026. Foden’s a bit daft here, but so is Bruno.

“If Bruno got sent off for that and nothing happened with Foden then we’d be saying, ‘Do you know what, Bruno was a bit daft, a bit silly’.

“The players are all in the PFA [Professional Footballers’ Association], everyone’s in a union – you’ve got to try and look out for each other; you can’t be rolling around.

“We saw Walker do it a few years ago with the headbutt and Bruno’s got to do better there.

“People say there’s tension and it’s a big game, but you’ve got to look out for your teammates and the opposition players as well.

“Foden, I don’t think it’s a red card.”

The red side of Manchester was up in arms in the second half, however, as VAR overturned the on field off side decision to award Erling Haaland the match winner.

The video referee deemed that Argentina’s World Cup villain and new City signing Enzo Fernandez had not been involved in the play, meaning Haaland was onside by the tip of his boot.

United legend Gary Neville was outraged, saying on Sky Sports that there needed to be “massive inquest into the goal”, while also stating the decision left him so confused that he “needed the offside rule explained to me”.

Neville got his wish with refereeing body Pro Ref contacted United post-match to admit an “error of judgment”, but City nabbed all three points and the admission did not spare the anger of Red Devils’ fans – who were taunted by Foden outside the ground post-match.

Even Premier League winner with City, Micah Richards, admitted a huge mistake had been made.

“One hundred per cent he is,” the former defender told Sky Sports when asked if Fernandez was attempting to play the ball.

“I think it’s been a bad day for referees and VAR.

“They got the Phil Foden decision wrong, and they got this decision wrong.

“How you cannot say Enzo Fernandez is challenging for the ball – of course he is!

“I’ve been in that position as a defender where any slight movement can make the difference for going for the ball or not, so of course it affects him.

“I just think they’ve got it so wrong.”

Keane added: “Fernandez is interfering with play. Basically, United have been punished for holding a good line. When you are in that position, you are impacting the game. You’re in the middle of the box, you’re going for the ball.

“Their line is good. Fernandez is offside, and he goes to play the ball, so United are getting punished for good defending.”

United sit 13th with four points from four games, while City are in second, level on points with champions Arsenal, with a perfect record of four wins from four matches.

HULL, ENGLAND – AUGUST 22: Lucas Herrington of Hull City applauds the fans after the team’s victory in the Premier League 2026/27 match between Hull City and Manchester United at MKM Stadium on August 22, 2026 in Hull, England. It shows we can compete at this level. It shows how far we’ve come that we can arguably be disappointed,” McBurnie said post-match.

Now, Herrington is in the frame to make his first Premier League start for the Tigers as they travel to Newcastle on Saturday.

The Brisbane Roar product replaced Nobel Mendy as a concussion substitute at Chelsea with the centre back ruled out of the trip to St James’ Park after being taken to hospital.

Herrington has come off the bench to replace a member of Hull’s back three in all four matches so far this season, while he started EFL Cup matches against Stoke and Sunderland.

He is surely poised for a call-up to the starting XI and in an interview with Hull’s website former Tiger and Socceroo Richard Garcia – whose brain Herrington picked about a move to Hull along with Socceroos teammate and another ex-Tiger in Jackson Irvine – said why his former Young Socceroos protege is ready to make the step up to starter.

“He has showed he is full of confidence at the moment,” Garcia told Hull’s website.

“I think getting a move to a Premier League club is a big confidence booster, but off the back of a World Cup, like I said, it has been a pretty quick rise for such a young man, and the fact that he’s taken it in his stride and he’s growing in confidence is a fantastic sign.

“I’m hoping that he has a really great season this year with Hull City and I’m sure the club will do well when he plays, and he’ll be a great member of the squad as well.

“That’s one thing that I think he really will have is that he’s always ambitious and he’s always wanting the squad to do well and wanting the team to do well, so he’ll be good whether he’s in the starting line-up or coming off the bench.

“He’ll do well for the club, and I think he’s going to be someone that is more likely than not going to be playing more and more often.”

EPL Wrap: GK heroics save Arsenal | 04:13

‘ABSOLUTELY DIABOLICAL’ SPURS’ WOES DEEPEN

Four games, zero goals.

Spurs fans arrived at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday with a clear message for their team: ‘please score a goal’ a homemade sign read.

And they did not come good on that wish as Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford kept yet another clean sheet.

It was the first ever scoreless draw at Tottenham’s $1 billion new stadium and supporters were yearning for this time three years ago when they were ‘loving big Ange instead’ and drowning in goal as Angeball made its remarkable introduction to the Premier League.

In one season and four games since Ange Postecoglou was sacked after winning the Europa League, current boss Roberto De Zerbi is the third manager to take charge of Tottenham.

He saved them from the embarrassment of relegation late last season, but after spending more than £300 million (AUD$565m) in the transfer market, has found starting a new campaign to be more challenging.

Tottenham sit in the all too familiar position of 17th on the table.

Newly promoted Coventry, who sit bottom with four losses, are the only other side yet to score a goal this season.

The wolves are yet to come for the former Brighton boss, but they will certainly begin to close in if the dry streak continues this week when they travel to Anfield for the third round of the EFL Cup before hosting Aston Villa under the spotlight of the early Saturday kick off.

Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes De Zerbi must come up with some answers quickly or the vicious cycle of Spurs sacking manager will click into gear soon.

“After spending £300m, I didn’t think there would be a problem scoring goals. But to not score in six hours of football is absolutely diabolical,” he told Sky Sports post-match.

“For the first 20 minutes, I thought that this is what I want to see. There was a moment when Fernandes had a shot and the whole crowd celebrated. It’s not great.

“The connection with the fans and the players is not there. I don’t know when they are going to get their first win. It might go on for longer, but I do still see some positives.

“It cannot stay this way with what is at their disposal. There are things that I don’t like. Robertson was your left-back and your wide left player because Marmoush wanted to come inside. That balance didn’t really work, so you are lopsided with what you’re trying to do.

“Trying to get the best squad is what De Zerbi has to solve. The midfield balance also isn’t right. You’ve got to find a way of getting a Kudus into the ten, or Maddison if he gets fit. I’m not sure how Kulusevski’s going to be but when he’s fit you’ve got to get him in.

“Even I’m looking and thinking ‘how would I change it?’ There are more questions than answers. He tried everything today. He couldn’t find it. The quality wasn’t there, but they have got quality players.”

‘TIRED’ LIVERPOOL’S DROUGHT CONTINUES

Things are going much better at Anfield than they are at Tottenham, but they are not going swimmingly under new manager Andoni Iraola.

Liverpool are unbeaten in all competitions this season, but in the Premier League they boast just one win – at newly promoted Ipswich Town.

The Reds have drawn at home to Nottingham Forest and Fulham, the latter in a goalless stalemate on the weekend, that have left the Anfield faithful uninspired.

They were buoyed by an impressive home victory midweek against Atletico Madrid to start their Champions League campaign in fine style.

A shell of that inspired team was on show against the Cottagers, who picked up their first point of the season, less than 72 hours later, however.

“Our players were tired. I think there is a lack of freshness, definitely. We cannot hide it,” Iraola said post-match.

“I think it’s the worst turnaround in terms of 60-something hours between the games, after a very big game (against Atletico Madrid) the other day.

“But this is going to happen more times, maybe with one more day, maybe. But sometimes it’s going to happen the same way during the season. We have to adapt to these circumstances.”

Based off those comments, Liverpool will be hanging out for the international break.

But first they must host Tottenham in the EFL Cup before travelling down south for Iraola’s return to Bournemouth.

Even though the upcoming international break will offer some respite, with 34 league games, seven Champions League league phases matches plus however many other games based on how they fare in Europe and the domestic cups, a tight schedule is not a problem that will go away.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker believes he and is teammates must simply suck it up and fix their “mentality”.

“Obviously, it’s a big challenge to play Wednesday night and Saturday evening, and you have another game Tuesday,” Alisson said.

“But we need to get the right mentality to do that and I think it wasn’t the case. We have to improve for the next one.

“This is the challenge (for) every big team who are playing in all competitions. If we want to do something special this season we have to cope with that.

“It’s what we want but you need to have the right mindset. I think it wasn’t the case from what we showed this afternoon.

“Deep inside we have it, we just need to put it out. The quality we have – we have so many top players – but we need to take and put more energy on the pitch for the next games.”

CITY GET BANG FOR THEIR BUCK AS GUNNERS’ STAR SIGNING PROVES WORTH

City are enjoying an immediate return on their £460 million ($623 million) splurge on new signings with a performance and result at Old Trafford that blow away fears of an immediate fall from grace in the post-Pep Guardiola era.

United reinforced their midfield in the transfer window with a trio of new faces but were unable to compete with City’s financial might in the battle for Elliot Anderson.

The England international’s £116 million move from Nottingham Forest was eclipsed by Enzo Fernandez’s £125 million arrival at the Etihad Stadium from Chelsea.

City got what they paid for as the big-money pairing dominated the midfield despite being a man light due to Foden’s dismissal.

Meanwhile,

Arsenal’s biggest signing of the transfer window has been made to wait for his chance to shine as Arteta kept faith with the stars that guided the Gunners to a first league title for 22 years.

On his return to England’s north-east after four years at Newcastle, Bruno Guimaraes was met with a frosty reception from Sunderland fans.

The Brazil midfielder is still to start for the English champions but made a telling impact after Arteta turned to him at half-time.

Just two minutes after David Raya saved Enzo Le Fee’s penalty to deny Sunderland the opener, Guimaraes rocketed a shot into the top corner for his first Arsenal goal.

Guimaraes also played in Bukayo Saka for the move that led to Arsenal’s second. The England winger converted from the penalty spot after he had been up-ended by Reinildo.

“The personality that he has. He comes in and this is a special game for him as well, what it means for him, and how he grabs the game,” said Arteta.

“The decisions that he’s made and the two actions. The goal is incredible and the assist as well to Bukayo to put him through in front of goal, it’s unbelievable as well.”

Arsenal and Manchester City already look set for another duel for the Premier League title after overcoming adversity…

[563
64,63,596,85
post-891451","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-football","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-football","tag-sports
["GET
