{"id":891461,"date":"2026-09-14T08:04:11","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T08:04:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/891461\/"},"modified":"2026-09-14T08:04:11","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T08:04:11","slug":"former-leafs-gm-nhl-executive-brian-burke-makes-brief-cameo-in-i-play-rocky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/891461\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Leafs GM, NHL executive Brian Burke makes brief cameo in &#8216;I Play Rocky&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TORONTO \u2014 \u201cI Play Rocky\u201d is about the making of the classic boxing movie, but hockey fans may recognize a familiar face in the film, too.<\/p>\n<p>Former NHL executive Brian Burke makes a brief cameo in the film, which recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to much fanfare.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI Play Rocky\u201d tells the story of how a young Sylvester Stallone wrote and then starred in the iconic 1976 film \u201cRocky.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The film\u2019s director Peter Farrelly says Burke is an old friend from Providence College in Rhode Island.<\/p>\n<p>Farrelly says Burke visited the movie\u2019s set in New Jersey and the longtime director decided to put him in a scene opposite the film\u2019s star Anthony Ippolito, who plays Stallone.<\/p>\n<p>Burke has worked for several NHL clubs, including the Vancouver Canucks, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames.
