Everyone knows Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber is the king of the long ball. <\/p>\n
But, as the Philadelphia Phillies detailed on Monday, the designated hitter, sometimes outfielder, does some pretty incredible things off the field, as well.<\/p>\n
That’s why Schwarber is one of thirty ball players to be nominated for this year’s Roberto Clemente Award presented by Capital One.<\/a> <\/p>\n This annual award recognizes the Major League player who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.<\/p>\n Team officials said Monday that Schwarber is among a list of nominees that “includes some of the game\u2019s most philanthropic players.”<\/p>\n The announcement came on the eve of Roberto Clemente Day — Sept. 15, 2026 — which was established by the MLB as a way to honor Clemente’s legacy as a humanitarian. <\/p>\n \u201cKyle embodies many of the qualities that make the Roberto Clemente Award so special. He is an exceptional player, a tremendous teammate and leader, and someone who is deeply committed to serving others,\u201d said Phillies Charities, Inc. President Bonnie Clark in a statement. \u201cThrough Schwarber’s Neighborhood Heroes, Kyle and his wife, Paige, have made a significant impact on the lives of first responders, military personnel and their families.
