Officers also uncovered \u201cnumerous dildos in the shape of various animal genitalia\u201d and \u201canimated animal porn\u201d during the raid.<\/p>\n
O\u2019Brien\u2019s barrister, Nathan Elridge, told the court his client had no criminal history, was genuinely remorseful and had good prospects of rehabilitation.<\/p>\n
\u201cI concede that this is repugnant \u2026 disastrous offending in terms of his life,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201c(It is) an aberration against his otherwise exceptional character and the contributions that he\u2019s made to those who know him and to the community more generally.\u201d<\/p>\n
Judge John Allen rejected the suggestion that the offending represented a complete departure from O\u2019Brien\u2019s character.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was motivated by firmly held perverse interests, rather than being a complete aberration,\u201d Judge Allen said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe offending is perplexing because \u2026 the background (material) shows that you are intelligent and socially and occupationally very functional.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn sentencing you, I\u2019ve taken into account \u2026 that you already suffered considerable shaming for your conduct, having been shunned by persons who know you.\u201d<\/p>\n
O\u2019Brien was sentenced to two years\u2019 probation and banned from having contact with dogs unless supervised.<\/p>\n
No conviction was recorded.<\/p>\n
