Broncos head coach Sean Payton was not happy with anyone on the team, least of all himself, after Monday night\u2019s 31-10 loss to the Chiefs.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously not a great evening. Didn\u2019t do a lot well at all in the game,\u201d Payton said. \u201cThat starts with me, that starts with our coaching staff. I thought they won, really, in every phase.\u201d<\/p>\n
Payton handed over play calling to offensive coordinator Davis Webb, and Payton was asked afterward whether it was especially frustrating not to be in control of the offense.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a head coach, always, whether you\u2019re calling the plays or not \u2014 regardless of who\u2019s calling the plays, when you have a game like that and you\u2019re the head coach, it\u2019s frustrating, it\u2019s disappointing. I don\u2019t know that the feeling is any different whether you\u2019re calling them or not, honestly,\u201d Payton said.<\/p>\n
The Broncos\u2019 two running backs, J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey, combined for just 11 carries for 54 yards. Payton said he would have liked to see more running the ball, but he wasn\u2019t necessarily blaming Webb for that. Payton noted that the Broncos consistently found themselves in long-yardage passing situations and were trailing for the entire second half.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur third down numbers weren\u2019t good, our rushing numbers weren\u2019t good, pick your spot,\u201d Payton said. \u201cLot of long yardage, lot of throws, not enough runs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked how he\u2019ll evaluate Webb as a play caller going forward, Payton said he\u2019ll review his performance the way he would a player\u2019s.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo different than a player, just evaluating the first quarter, the game, and then making the corrections and learning,\u201d Payton said.<\/p>\n
