The Chicago Cubs have taken another step toward clinching a playoff spot after a win over the Atlanta Braves Monday.

The Cubs are still in the top spot in the National League wild card standings, and are hoping to host a best-of-three series at Wrigley Field to kick off the postseason later this month.

Here is the latest update on the playoff hunt, and what the Cubs’ schedule looks like in the weeks ahead.

National League Wild Card Standings:

Chicago Cubs 84-67

Philadelphia Philles 83-67

San Diego Padres 82-68

Arizona Diamondbacks 80-71 (2.5 GB)

What is the Cubs’ magic number?

The Cubs’ magic number to clinch a playoff spot has dropped to seven after their win over the Braves at Wrigley Field on Monday evening.

If the Cubs and Diamondbacks were to finish the regular season with identical records, the Cubs would get into the postseason because they have a superior head-to-head record over Arizona.

The Cubs also have that advantage over the Phillies, having won six of the seven games they played against Philadelphia during the regular season.

If the season ended today, who would the Cubs play?

If the season were to end today, the Milwaukee Brewers would earn the top spot in the National League, and would receive a bye into the Division Series, along with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Braves would take on the Padres in Atlanta in a best-of-three Wild Card Series, while the Cubs would welcome the Phillies to Wrigley Field at the end of the month.

What is the road ahead for the Cubs?

The Cubs will continue their series against the Braves on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field, and then after a day off Thursday they will face the Cincinnati Reds over the weekend.

The Phillies will have a brief two-game series against the Washington Nationals before a three-game road set against the New York Mets. They then will end the season with home games against the Brewers and Rays.

The Padres, who have won eight games in a row, will continue a road series against the Rockies, then will welcome the Marlins to Petco Park for a three-game series.

The Diamondbacks will continue their homestand with two more games against the Marlins, and then three games against the Yankees.

The team will wrap up the season with a three-game series against the Padres.

The Chicago Cubs have taken another step toward clinching a playoff spot after a win over the Atlanta…

[558
64,63,591,85
post-893195","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-mlb","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-mlb","tag-sports
["GET
