Nikita Tszyu is already back in training for what now shapes as a potential American debut before Christmas \u2013 and after finally sitting down to rescore his controversial IBF world title eliminator against Ben Mahoney.<\/p>\n

Only three weeks on from the contentious Gold Coast headliner \u2013 where the fight between himself and Mahoney was declared a draw<\/a> \u2013 Tszyu has rewatched, and properly scored, a bout he initially declared he lost.<\/p>\n

Yet despite those comments made immediately after the fight, and while still inside the ring, \u2018The Butcher\u2019 now believes the scorecards should have read his way by eight rounds to four.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Tszyu has also opened up on a proposed US debut this December, ongoing issues surrounding his left hand, and headlines surrounding his last fight over supposed \u201csnappy\u201d interviewing behaviour. <\/p>\n

But first, the Mahoney draw — which was scored 117-111 Tszyu, 115-113 Mahoney and 114-114. <\/p>\n

\u201cI scored it eight-four,\u201d Tszyu said at a Sydney press event on Wednesday. \u201cI gave him the first two rounds and then the last two rounds. <\/p>\n

\u201cBut everything else, I thought my forward pressure, control of the ring, landing the heavier punches \u2026 for me that\u2019s how I favour boxing.\u201d<\/p>\n

So your opinion has changed considerably since the fight?<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, it\u2019s changed,\u201d Tszyu continued. \u201cIn the heat of the moment, you kind of forget. It\u2019s hard to be a judge when you\u2019re there in the ring.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou feel every little touch.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you look back at it, a simple touch of the head doesn\u2019t look like much, but in the ring it can feel like a lot more than it really is.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the same when I watch back my sparrings.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome days when I think I did bad, I\u2019ve done much better than I thought. Then days where I thought I did good, I\u2019ve done worse than I thought.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Laughs] So I\u2019m not a good judge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later, Tszyu added of the Mahoney performance: \u201cOverall, I had good moments of control.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t as controlling as I could be. And didn\u2019t have the ring presence that I wish I had.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I still had him on the backfoot pretty much the whole fight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Told Mahoney thought he won, Tszyu continued: \u201cI haven\u2019t been on social media so I don\u2019t know what anyone has been doing. But everyone has their own way of processing things and dealing with the results.\u201d<\/p>\n

Any regrets with what you said in the ring?<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I don\u2019t regret it,\u201d Tszyu continued. \u201cBecause it was what I felt at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was some disappointment with the way I fought. I felt I could\u2019ve done a lot better.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut this happens. You don\u2019t always have your best nights. And there are a lot of things to improve on but overall I\u2019m quite happy I got to do twelve rounds.\u201d<\/p>\n

So as for what he put the off night down too?<\/p>\n

\u201cI dunno,\u201d he shrugged. \u201cYou guys [in the media, said] I seemed a little bit off. A little bit snappy at everyone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw there was a lot of articles going around, a lot of talk around my attitude.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I dunno, sometimes we\u2019ll be good, sometime maybe we\u2019ll be s***.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan\u2019t be happy-go-lucky all the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it was nothing personal against you guys.<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, my wife and I watch a lot of comedies. And we like sarcastic comedies.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I was just doing the stuff I\u2019ve been learning, the one liners.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Laughs] But I\u2019m not good at sarcasm, obviously. I say it with a straight face.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Tszyu said he was also happy with the way his troublesome left hand had gone not only throughout the fight, but his camp preceding it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was surprising,\u201d he said. \u201cI didn\u2019t mess it up at all which is unusual.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Laughs] Although you know how I said my blisters and my knuckles had been sweet? It flared up a couple of days later.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought \u2018ah, I\u2019ve f***ing jinxed myself\u2019. But then we got it back under control right before the weigh ins.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I\u2019m not talking about injuries because I don\u2019t want to jinx myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

So what\u2019s next?<\/p>\n

\u201cI hear there is something lined up at the end of the year,\u201d he said of what has long been touted as a placement on the undercard of David Benavidez\u2019s next fight.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut whether it\u2019s international or another domestic fight, I\u2019m not sure.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I have started training again this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t get told much until things are signed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked if he was ready for the States, Tszyu continued: \u201cI hope so.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think I can figure it out. I know this fight was a great learning curve for me and has put things into perspective.<\/p>\n

\u201cI need to be a lot more professional with the way I do things.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t be landscaping so close to the fight. I can\u2019t be woodworking so close to the fight.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re bad habits I do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Tszyu also suggested he had enjoyed fighting before a Gold Coast crowd that had been in favor of Mahoney.<\/p>\n

\u201cI actually enjoyed that,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve always been the favourite. Always had the crowd on my side.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut you have to learn that it\u2019s not always going to be like that.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you go overseas, most likely everyone will be against you. You\u2019ll have to face adversity. Have to face the boos.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo that was also a new experience for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tszyu also stressed he still has no issue making the super welterweight limit.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy issue this time around, I started checking my weight two weeks too late,\u201d he said. \u201cSo I started off heavier than usual and had to cut a little extra. But overall, it still felt manageable.<\/p>\n

\u201c[On the scales] I always look like a scarecrow. Always look like I\u2019m on death row.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s just how I\u2019ve always been.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy body has a different thing with water. But I know how to rehydrate properly and get all the nutrients back in.
