The\u00a0New Jersey Devils announced\u00a0today that the team\u00a0has\u00a0hiredBryan McCabe\u00a0as\u00a0Vice President, Prospect Personnel\/Assistant General Manager, Utica Comets (AHL),and\u00a0Jessica Campbell\u00a0as\u00a0Manager, Player Development.\u00a0The announcement was made by General Manager\u00a0Sunny Mehta.\u00a0<\/p>\n
These hires will\u00a0complete the club\u2019s development staff\u00a0and\u00a0oversee prospect development,\u00a0while also\u00a0serving\u00a0as a resource\u00a0for the American Hockey League franchise in Utica. The department will report to\u00a0Devils\u2019\u00a0Assistant General Manager\/Utica Comets General Manager\u00a0Braden Birch\u00a0and\u00a0work in concert with existing Development Coaches Eric Weinrich, Mark\u00a0Voakes (who\u00a0returned\u00a0to\u00a0development after a year as an Assistant Coach in Utica),\u00a0and\u00a0Esa\u00a0Pirnes (Europe).\u00a0Focused on\u00a0the advancement\u00a0of the club\u2019s\u00a0draft picks and young players, McCabe and Campbell will also serve as bridges\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0organization\u2019s existing resources including\u00a0Athlete Care, Performance, and Coaching.\u00a0<\/p>\n

McCabe, 51, joins New Jersey after spending the last 14 seasons with the Florida Panthers organization in player development roles since 2012-13.\u00a0Florida hired McCabe as a Player Development Coach in 2012-13,\u00a0and he later served as Director of Player Development from 2013-14 to 2016-17. McCabe was promoted\u00a0to\u00a0Director of Player Personnel in 2017-18.\u00a0He became\u00a0an integral\u00a0member of a front office that led Florida to three consecutive Stanley Cup Final appearances\u00a0and consecutive Stanley Cup championships\u00a0in 2024 and 2025.<\/p>\n
Born on June 8, 1975, in St. Catharines, Ontario, McCabe played 15 seasons in the NHL from 1995-96 to 2010-11. The New York Islanders selected the left-shot defenseman in the second round, 40th\u00a0overall, in the 1993 NHL Draft. He\u00a0made\u00a0his NHL debut on Oct. 7, 1995, with the Islanders,\u00a0and played two full seasons with the Islanders before he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks midway through the 1997-98 season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
McCabe was later traded to\u00a0the\u00a0Chicago\u00a0Blackhawks\u00a0in June of 1999\u00a0and spent the 1999-00 campaign with the Blackhawks.\u00a0The\u00a0Toronto Maple\u00a0Leafs\u00a0acquired McCabe in a trade\u00a0in October of 2000\u00a0where hespent the next seven seasons until 2007-08.\u00a0In 2005-06 he set\u00a0career-highs across the board with\u00a019 goals, 49 assists and 68 points, while his 68 points ranked third for all NHL defensemen that season.\u00a0His career-high six game-winning goals in 2005-06 are also the second most\u00a0in a single season for a Maple Leaf defenseman,\u00a0behind Tim Horton\u2019s seven in 1963-64.\u00a0He\u00a0earned\u00a0297 career points with the Maple\u00a0Leafs, which ranks eighth all-time for\u00a0a\u00a0defenseman in Toronto\u2019s franchise history.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Before ending his NHL career with the New York Rangers\u00a0in 2010-11, McCabe spent parts of three seasons with Florida starting in 2008-09. Florida named McCabe captain in 2009-10. McCabe played\u00a01000th\u00a0career NHL game on Nov. 6, 2009.\u00a0Overall, McCabe recorded 528 career points (145g-383a) in 1,135 career games.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On the international stage, McCabe represented Canada several times, which included the International Ice Hockey Federation\u2019s (IIHF) World Junior Championship (WJC) in 1994 and 1995. McCabe won\u00a0gold\u00a0medals at both WJC tournaments and later won another\u00a0gold\u00a0medal at the IIHF\u2019s World Championship in 1997. McCabe also represented Canada at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games.<\/p>\n
Jessica Campbell,\u00a0Manager, Player\u00a0Development<\/p>\n
Campell, 34,\u00a0spent the last two years as an\u00a0assistant\u00a0coach with the Seattle Kraken, before stepping down from her role\u00a0on April 30\u00a0to explore other opportunities. She was\u00a0hired as an assistant coach on July 3, 2024,\u00a0becoming the first full-time female assistant coach in NHL history to work behind the bench during the regular season.\u00a0Campbell\u00a0originally joined the Seattle organization in July\u00a0of\u00a02022 and was the assistant coach for Coachella\u00a0(AHL), for two seasons, helping the team reach the Calder Cup Final in both years.\u00a0In both stints, she worked with former Firebirds\/Kraken\u00a0head\u00a0coach Dan Bylsma.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Before joining the Kraken organization,\u00a0Campbell worked as an assistant coach and skills coach for the N\u00fcrnberg Ice Tigers\u00a0(DEL),\u00a0Germany\u2019s top men\u2019s professional league,\u00a0during\u00a0the 2021-22 season.\u00a0She also\u00a0served as an assistant coach for Germany at the 2022 IIHF World Championship.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Campbell played four seasons, 2010-11 to 2013-14, at Cornell University (NCAA), where she overlapped in the Big Red hockey program for three seasons with Braden Birch, who also played collegiate hockey at Cornell. In her senior season, she served as captain. Campbell played professionally with the Calgary Inferno, from 2014-15 through 2016-17 of the Canadian Women\u2019s Hockey League (CWHL) and after a brief hiatus, she returned to play with the Malmo Redhawks in 2019-20 of the Swedish Women\u2019s Division 1 league.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In 2019, she opened JC Power Skating, a skills and development school in Kelowna, that worked with numerous NHL players.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Born June 24, 1992,\u00a0in\u00a0Rocanville, Saskatchewan,\u00a0Campbell\u00a0has represented Canada in international competition in several tournaments including the\u00a0International Ice Hockey Federation\u2019s (IIHF) U-18 World Junior Championship (WJC)\u00a0in 2009 and 2010 and the IIHF World Championship in 2015.
