\n\tAll hail Peter Parker. \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day<\/a>\u201d has notched a heroic box office milestone, overtaking 2015\u2019s \u201cStar Wars: The Force Awakens\u201d as the highest-grossing domestic release of all time.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Force Awakens\u201d had spent more than a decade as the biggest movie ever at the North American box office with $936 million. It has officially ceded the crown to Tom Holland\u2019s latest Spidey adventure, which has surpassed that benchmark with $936.773 million after 47 days in theaters.<\/p>\n

\n\tNow the question is whether \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d has the endurance to become the first movie in history to generate $1 billion at the domestic box office \u2014 although that might be unlikely at this point without a re-release.<\/p>\n

\n\tGlobally, Sony and Marvel\u2019s epic \u201cBrand New Day\u201d has earned a jaw-dropping $2.45 billion. It\u2019s the third-highest grossing movie of all time, trailing just 2009\u2019s \u201cAvatar\u201d ($2.9 billion), \u201cAvengers: Endgame\u201d ($2.7 billion) and ahead of 2022\u2019s \u201cAvatar: The Way of Water\u201d ($2.3 billion) and 1994\u2019s \u201cTitanic\u201d ($2.2 billion).<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day,\u201d Holland\u2019s fourth solo outing as Peter Parker, has been on an epic box office run since late July. The movie launched to a record-breaking $360 million in North America and a staggering $932 million globally in its opening weekend; it then cleared $1 billion after just six days of release. It reached $2 billion after three weekends, becoming the second-fastest film to reach the threshold following 2019\u2019s \u201cAvengers: Endgame,\u201d which got there after 11 days. Among other records, \u201cBrand New Day\u201d was the fastest film to reach $700 million (13 days), $800 million (19 days) and $900 million (36 days). It\u2019s only the second film ever to surpass $900 million domestically.<\/p>\n

\n\tDirected by \u201cShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings\u201d filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, \u201cBrand New Day\u201d picks up after the events of 2021\u2019s \u201cSpider-Man: No Way Home\u201d \u2014 which ended with the entire world forgetting about Peter Parker. Initial demand was stratospheric because audiences were desperate to find out the ramifications of Spider-Man\u2019s fateful choice. (And they wanted to be among the first to find out who Sadie Sink was playing in the movie. Spoiler alert: It\u2019s Jean Grey.) Yet the movie enjoyed unprecedented staying power because of the euphoric word of mouth.<\/p>\n
