Despite meeting regularly, the union remains \u201cworlds apart\u201d with the league on core economic aspects of the impending labor negotiations, MLBPA Interim Exec Dir Bruce Meyer said Wednesday. The CBA expires at 11:59 p.m. ET on Dec. 1. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe continue to meet. We meet almost every week but the core economic stuff we\u2019re worlds apart because the league has proposed a salary cap system \u2026 that is worse than anything that\u2019s out there. And then they\u2019ve also made proposals on amateur entry which are terrible for players,\u201d Meyer said on Foul Territory. \u201cSo I can\u2019t say we\u2019ve made any progress in economic areas.\u201d <\/p>\n
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said on ESPN\u2019s broadcast of the Little League Classic in August<\/a> that the league is \u201cplanning on playing baseball next year.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re meeting regularly, which is good,\u201d Manfred said. \u201cEvery week, we\u2019ve had days where we\u2019ve met with the players. It\u2019s early, but we\u2019ve got a lot of work to do, and we\u2019re at it. Look, our goal is to make a deal. We want to make a deal. We want to play baseball next year. We\u2019re planning on playing baseball next year.\u201d <\/p>\n
