SBS WorldWatch will become a digital-only service from 18 September, ending its run as a broadcast television channel and moving entirely to SBS On Demand.

The multilingual news service provides international news bulletins in 38 languages from 49 broadcasters around the world.

SBS says the move to its streaming platform will allow it to offer more international news content, with two or more daily bulletins in most languages.

Rather than waiting for a scheduled broadcast, audiences will be able to access bulletins on SBS On Demand as they become available.

The broadcaster said the expanded digital service will provide more content than could be accommodated on a single linear television channel.

SBS Director of News and Current Affairs Mandi Wicks said WorldWatch had played an important role in connecting Australians with international news and perspectives in their preferred languages.

“Moving to SBS On Demand gives us the opportunity to build on that service, with more international news bulletins and greater flexibility for audiences to decide when and how they watch,” she said.

Wicks acknowledged the change would affect viewers who have traditionally watched WorldWatch on television.

“We recognise this will be a change for some audiences who are accustomed to watching SBS WorldWatch on linear television,” she said.

“We’re committed to supporting them through the transition, while continuing to evolve our services for the future.”

SBS WorldWatch will become a digital-only service from 18 September, ending its run as a broadcast television channel…

[29
64,63,134,427
post-895130","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-tv","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-entertainment","tag-tv
["GET
