Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, who publicly requested a trade last month, was suspended by the team Wednesday \u2060after failing to report to training camp.<\/p>\n
The 33-year-old veteran has spent all 11 of his NHL seasons with \u2060the Jets, winning the \u2060Vezina \u200bTrophy as the league\u2019s top goalie three times and capturing the Hart Trophy<\/a> as the NHL\u2019s most valuable \u2060player in 2024-25.<\/p>\n The average annual value of Hellebuyck\u2019s seven-year contract, signed in October 2023, is $8.5m.<\/p>\n Hellebuyck issued a statement through \u2060agent Ray Petkau that read, \u201cI have tried to handle the situation quietly and \u200brespectfully while giving the organization time \u200cto explore its options. \u200cWith training camp approaching, I felt it was important to publicly confirm \u200cmy (trade) request. My position has not changed. I believe moving on is the best path forward for me and my family.\u201d<\/p>\n Winnipeg general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff will hold a press conference Thursday. The Utah Mammoth, Carolina Hurricanes and New Jersey Devils also \u200breportedly have interest.<\/p>\n Hellebuyck had a down season by his standards in 2025-26, finishing 23-23-11 with a 2.86 goals-against average and a career-worst .895 save percentage. Winnipeg failed to make the playoffs, going 35-35-12.<\/p>\n The prior season, en route to the \u2060Hart and Vezina honors, he went 47-12-3 with a .925 save percentage \u200band league-best figures \u200bin GAA (2.00) and shutouts (eight).<\/p>\n Overall in \u200b625 NHL<\/a> games, Hellebuyck has a 345-208-55 record with \u200ba 2.58 GAA and \u200ca .916 save \u200bpercentage.<\/p>\n
