A women\u2019s-only swimming session at Melbourne aquatic centre has been suspended after a wild brawl broke out between female patrons.<\/p>\n
Police were called to the Sunshine Leisure Centre on George St about 7.15pm on Sunday after a wild fight broke inside the venue.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s understood the fight between the women erupted after the end of the women\u2019s only swim session.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not known what sparked the all-in brawl.<\/p>\n
Brimbank City Council has since suspended the program after swimmers and leisure centre staff were exposed to \u201cunruly behaviour\u201d.<\/p>\n
A Victoria Police spokeswoman confirmed officers were called to the centre on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is believed the fight broke out between a group of women inside the venue on George Street about 7.15pm,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo one was injured.\u201d<\/p>\n
A formal report has not been made to police by any of the parties in relation to the incident. <\/p>\n
Brimbank Mayor Virginia Tachos confirmed the women\u2019s-only swim session were paused following a serious safety incident were \u201cparticipants and Brimbank Leisure Centre staff were exposed to unruly behaviour that occurred among a number of attending patrons\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cBrimbank City Council does not tolerate violence or unsafe behaviour. The health and safety of our patrons, our staff and the broader community is our absolute priority,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouncil is undertaking a full investigation into the incident and a comprehensive risk and safety assessment to determine whether this program can be delivered safely in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Tachos said the sessions were \u201cimportant\u201d to many women and provided the \u201copportunity to exercise and connect with others in a welcoming, safe and comfortable environment\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouncil has an obligation to ensure they are delivered in a way that is safe for<\/p>\n
everyone \u2014 including the Brimbank Leisure Centre employees who support and deliver the<\/p>\n
program,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
