SUPERCARS supremo Barclay Nettlefold says the Repco Bathurst 1000 will be the ultimate beneficiary of the parity finetuning that has seized headlines over the past fortnight.<\/p>\n

A range of strong views have been shared by the championship\u2019s three different manufacturers\/homologation teams on the current state of parity and the work that is required between the season\u2019s two enduros.<\/p>\n

Both Ford and General Motors have claimed that the other has played politics to try get their way, but Nettlefold was calm when asked for his read on recent happenings.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got such a competitive sport now, it\u2019s the most competitive in the world,\u201d he told V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd with the investment that is going in from teams as well as ourselves, it\u2019s important we continually do what we\u2019ve agreed with the teams and that is to make sure that the racing is as close as it can possibly be at any given time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why we have certain structure in our regulations to accommodate that.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur motorsport department made a call off the back of a trigger that occurred, and certain teams felt that we had overstepped the mark, and we considered that and reconsidered our position.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked if he feared the \u2018p-word\u2019 might overshadow or detract from the Great Race, Nettlefold indicated quite the opposite.<\/p>\n

\u201cBathurst is always full of surprises,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s one of the great racetracks in the world and I\u2019m sure that the adjustment that has been made and the cars, the way they are currently set-up so close, that we\u2019re going to see the best racing we\u2019ve ever seen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Twenty-six cars have been entered for the Bathurst 1000 (October 8-11) comprising of 11 Mustangs, 10 Camaros and five Supras.<\/p>\n

Supercars has yet to disclose the outcome of Centre of Gravity testing conducted earlier this week.<\/p>\n
