A union says 137 workers at the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank are slated for redundancy as part of an ongoing company restructure, but the company says its plans are “yet to be finalised”.<\/p>\n

They would form part of a total of 299 job changes across the bank’s Consumer Lending Operations and Customer Care divisions.<\/p>\n

ABC News understands that the bank’s Adelaide staff would be impacted more than its other city and regional workforces.<\/p>\n

That restructure began in April, when Bendigo Bank announced partnerships with two international companies: IT service provider Infosys, and agentic AI company Genpact.<\/p>\n

In a statement the union said about 445 Bendigo Bank positions had been “lost or reduced through restructures” since January 2025 and that forthcoming losses had “a strong documented relationship to AI, automation or broader technological change”.<\/p>\n

“The bank has told us that as a partnership with an offshore technological company, that it’s making efficiencies through these redundancies,” ASU SA-NT branch secretary Ella Waters said.<\/p>\n

“We’re yet to see what that means for whether or not these workers are going to be completely replaced by AI, but we’re extremely concerned that, in the name of technological advancement, hundreds of jobs are being cut.”<\/p>\n

A Bendigo Bank spokesperson referred ABC News to an April statement announcing the partnerships with Infosys and Genpact, saying the bank “continues to review its business operations and processes”.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson did not confirm whether AI would replace workers.<\/p>\n

“The detailed design for all impacted areas is yet to be finalised,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“The process and operational improvements expected to be delivered will lead to workforce changes that will impact our people.<\/p>\n

“The bank is committed to supporting all employees through this period of change, including exploring opportunities for redeployment for those whose roles will no longer be required, where possible.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Tell us about your experience.
